Goodbye, Home

You shoved the remaining pieces of clothing into your overflowing suitcase as your mother stood in the kitchen, preparing you a 'first day' meal, as she called it.

You were preparing for college, and you were.. attempting, to pack all of the clothes you wanted.
You had always loved fashion, and you were not going to go to college without every single one of your favorite shirts.

"Mom! Do we have any more suitcases?!"

You said in an annoyed tone, turning your head towards your open bedroom door so she could hear you from the kitchen.

You heard her sigh heavily before speaking,

"No, sweetheart. You've filled both your fathers and my vacation suitcases. We don't have anymore,"

You rolled your eyes in frustration as you decided on a new way of fitting all of your clothes in the suitcase.

You backed away from it, staring it down for a moment with a grin on your face, before leaping onto your bed where the suitcase lied.

"Hai-yaa!"

You screeched out as you belly flopped onto the clothes, trying to push them further down.

You started to laugh at yourself, realizing how silly you were being.

You heard your mom sigh and laugh softly from the kitchen.

"Anyway.."

You said to yourself.

"I gotta get finished packing."

Later, after you had finally managed to stuff all of your clothes and shoes into your suitcases, you put them in the trunk of your mom's SUV and hopped in the passenger seat.

You fidgeted with your fingers, staring low to the floor of the car.

The realization started to kick in.
You were leaving home.
You were.. going to..
College.

And you were going to be there for a hot damn minute.

Your mom soon got in the driver's seat and started the car.

"So.. you excited?"

Your mom said, glancing over at you with a soft smile on her lips.

You sighed softly before speaking,

"Yeah, I guess so."

She didn't respond, but she stared at you for a moment before backing out of the driveway and leaving.

The scenery was just beautiful.

You had finally reached the city where your college resided.
There were so many buildings, so many bridges and roads.
The streets were crowded with cars and people, like a chaotic ant colony.

As the tires on the car finally led you to the front parking lot of your 'new home', a new feeling rose in your chest.

Curiosity.

You quickly opened the door and and slid out, walking to the back of the car and opening the trunk.
As you pulled your suitcases out of the trunk, your mom stood a few feet away from you.
You glanced at her for a moment, only to see tears filling her eyes.

"Mom?"

You said, setting your suitcase down and walking over to her, embracing her.

"My sweet little girl.. all grown up."

She said, her voice breaking as she held tightly onto you.

You smiled weakly as you continued to embrace her, holding her close.

" it's okay, mom. I'll call every other night. Don't worry about me."

She chuckled softly as she broke the hug, staring deep into your eyes now.

"I know. Just be careful, okay?"

"Okay. I will"

You said with a soft smile on your face, trying your best to reassure your worried mother.

You pulled out the handles on your suitcases, placing one on each side of you.
You stare back at your mom for a moment.

"Bye, mom. I'll call you later tonight, if I'm not too busy."

You grin as happily as you can and begin the anxiety inducing walk to the front doors of the college.
New York University.

As you finally reach the dome shaped entrance, your heart begins pounding harder and faster.
You swallow hard before opening the glass door.
The room is grand, filled with designs and patterns littered everywhere. Students sat around in the lounge while other students sped through, books and binders in their hands.

"Right. Gotta find my first class."

You sigh heavily as you pull a crumpled sheet of paper and examine it closely, seeing your schedule and dorm room number.

"Dorm.. 34."

You sigh again before carefully making your way through the crowded halls, trying your best not to bump into strangers.

As you reach dorm hall 3, you walk down it til you find your dorm number, 34.
The door was a soft shade of violet with a white doorknob.

"Right.."

You say as you grip tightly onto the doorknob, your sweaty hands making your grip less secure.
You carefully push the handle down and push the door open, revealing a dark room.

"Okay. So my roommate.. or.. roommates aren't here yet."

You smiled gratefully as you walk inside, finding a light switch nearby.
As you flick it on, the room illuminates itself.
The walls are a sharp white while the floors are a sleek shade of tan wood. The floors shun in the circular lights that were stuck in the ceiling. There was a large window straight ahead of the door as you walked a few more steps into the room. The window ran from the floor to the ceiling, lighting the room with sunlight. A thick bar ran through the glass, splitting the window into two.

"Looks like a nice place to sit while studying."

You say softly, imagining the long nights of endless hours of studying and working.

You sigh groggily as you make your way to the two beds that sat off to the right of the door in a spacious room.
The beds had simple white sheets and a blanket lied nicely over it, with a light brown bed frame, and two white pillows tucked nicely into the crease of the head of the bed. The bed looks inviting and comfortable after the long car ride, but you decided against it, as you knew you should attend the introductory classes.

You shove your suitcases into the corner near the bed you picked, the one closest to the window.

"Right. I gotta get going."

You pull out your phone to check the time.
7:45 AM
15 minutes till first period introduction.
You shove your phone back into your pocket and pull out the wrinkled paper from your pocket once again, seeing that your first class was in room 210, mathematics. With.. Miss Blanchett.

You smile nervously as you turn to head to room 210.
