Today is the big day. Cassie moves in with the Walters. The girl was finishing putting away her last things when she heard a knock on the front door. She runs down the stairs and opens the door. It was Danny Walter, one of the sons of the Walter family. He offers the young girl one of his most honest smiles.
"Ready, Cassie ?" Danny asked, taking Cassie's suitcases.
Cassie nodded, taking a slight breath as Danny placed her suitcases in the trunk of the car. She then left the house, taking one last look at it although it was almost empty. With her mother's departure this morning, the atmosphere was no longer the same. Cassie opened the passenger door and sat down. Danny joined her a few minutes later and started driving toward the Walters house.
"So, Danny." Cassie tried to break the akward silence in the car. "I know your family for a while, but i never really knew : how many siblings do you actually have ?"
This question didn't really surprise Danny. He just smiled at Cassie. "Well, I have six brothers and one sister. Plus, my cousins Isaac and Lee are living with us. Oh and there's Jackie."
"Jackie ?"
"She's coming from New York. Her parents and sister died in an accident so she's coming to live with us today." Danny explained, scratching the back of his head nervously. "I hope you don't mind having a roomate."
Cassie bit the inside of her cheek, something she does when she's nervous. She kind of felt bad for that Jackie girl.
"Absolutely not ! It's already really nice of you and your family to host me. I'm not going to complain about that much." She offered a smile to Danny who gave her one in return.
The ride wasn't very long, but it was the most boring ten minutes Cassie had spent. Danny was a nice guy, but finding a topic of conversation wasn't Cassie's best quality. Danny parked the car in front of the house and quickly got out. Cassie looked at the house as if it were the first time she had seen it. The Walter house has always been impressive to her. Probably because it was bigger than hers.
After a few seconds of staring at the house, Cassie finally got out of the car and headed towards the trunk where Danny was already taking out the suitcases. "Hey, let me help you."
"No, no, you should enter. My mom would probably want to see you." Danny smiled at her, nodding towards the house.
Cassie looked back at the house. "Yeah..."
She headed towards the house, her hands in the pockets of her beautiful white cardigan. Arriving at the front door, she stopped and took a deep breath. "Come on..."
Cassie finally opened the door and entered the house. The house seemed silent. That's what she was thinking before a little boy ran past her, forcing her to back up and bump into something. Or rather someone.
It was Lee, one of the Walter family's cousin.
"Careful !" He said, grabbing his skateboard from the ground.
Cassie looked at him, frowning. "It was an accident."
Lee titled his head. "Let me guess, if the other girl is Jackie, then you must be Cassandra, right ?"
"Yeah that's me. Please call me Cassie." She slightly smile at the guy in front of her. "And you are ?"
"I'm Lee."
"Nice to meet you, Lee." She said while smiling at him.
"Nice to meet you too, Cassandra." He said as he walked past her, smirking.
