Layla was excited when the doctor was able to squeeze her in last minute. She didn't have anyone else to go to so hopefully this recommendation would work out. Layla sat in the lobby and filled out the paperwork. She had to remember to make sure she put her new information on there verses putting the information for Layla.
Nurse: Lacey right this way
I am going to take your blood pressure and drawn some blood
Layla: Okay
Nurse: Don't be nervous just relax
After the nurse got done drawing her blood she left out the room. Layla couldn't help but be nervous she was praying that her baby was healthy and that she didn't cause any harm to her baby.
The doctor knocked on the door
Good Afternoon Ms. Powers I am Doctor Powell looks like you are indeed pregnant so lets take a look and see how far along you are
Can you lay back and lift your shirt up please
Layla laid back and lifted her shirt up
Dr. Powell: This is going to be cold
Layla looked up at the monitor as the doctor pressed the ultrasound probe on Layla's belly to try and get a good picture and heartbeat of the baby
At first the doctor couldn't get a heartbeat, this little baby is being stubborn
Layla heart began to sank
Dr.Powell: Oh there it goes a strong heart beat and looks like you are measuring out at 9 weeks
Layla: Wow 9 weeks how did I not know
Dr.Powell: Some people can go there whole pregnancy without knowing
Layla: I really didn't know I'm not evening showing
Dr.Powell: Every woman is different. I am going to get you started on some prenatal pills and I am waiting on your bloodwork just to make sure everything checks out
Layla was hoping that no drugs would come up in her system
Dr. Powell: I will be right back
Layla sat up and waited for the doctor to return, once the doctor came back in the look on her face didn't seem like she was about to deliver good news
Dr.Powell: I'm sorry to say this but your results are coming back that you have heavy amounts of heroin in your system. How long have you been taking drugs
Layla: It was just one or two times
Dr.Powell: One or two times doesn't add up to the amount that is in your system
Layla didn't know what to say
Dr. Powell: I am going to have to report you
Layla panicked she hopped up on the table
Layla: Please please don't report me
Layla had to think fast
Dr.Powell I could lose my license by not reporting it
Layla I had to run to another country to escape my abusive husband, crying and sniffling
He use to force me to do drugs he almost killed me I literally came here with the clothes on my back. Once I found out I was pregnant I knew I couldn't go back.
Layla started crying hysterically
The doctor grabbed some kleenex and handed it to Layla.
I am sorry I did not mean to make you upset just calm down and breathe
