Chapter 23: Caught.

★VERONICA★

"hey whats up?" i ask as i slip into my office and saw eva looking over some of my things.

she spun around in surprise.

"hey.. you look great"

glancing down at myself, i smiled at my outfit. white is definitely my color.

"thank you. are you okay?" i walked over to my desk and sat down. eva rounded the desk and leaned on it.

"i actually came to check on you.. the day is coming in two days"

my face harden at the mention. "so?"

"you havent visited them in three years. dont you think you want to? i'll go with you just please visit them this year" she begged.

i started shuffling through my papers trying to ignore my pestering best friend.

it was too hard to visit them. it just made me remember just how much i missed them. i hated it.

"veronica! stop ignoring me" she snatched my papers away.

"maybe i just dont want to talk about it!" i blew up, "and maybe you should just mind your fucking business!"

eva grew silent, looking at me with sad eyes that made me feel bad for swearing at her in such a manner.

"you know," eva sighed and sat down on the edge of my desk. "you can yell at me, curse at me, even hit me but im not going to give up on trying to convince you to go. you love them, veronica. they were more of your real parents then your real parents. stop avoiding their graves and just go. they'd be pissed to know this was what you were doing"

i sighed and ran my hand over my hair. "fine i'll visit them" i say just to get her off my back 'cause i know my best friend and she'll keep going on and on.

"great!" eva squealed. "do you want to go alone or.."

"no um i'll t-take harley and maven with me" i stuttered feeling nervous.

"thats so cute. let them meet your parents. im glad i convinced you. by the way i want to meet them. you say they're fine as fuck right?"

i narrowed my eyes at my best friend. "shut up and get out"

she giggled not caring.

"by the way i wont be home tonight. with a couple of friends im going out of town til tomorrow"

i hum. "okay"

she started going through my things considering this was her first time to my office. my best friend gushed and cooed over the photos i put up of us. i couldnt do anything but smile and think about how much i really love her. she's the best.

"i want you to meet my friend, jed" i suddenly said out loud after texting him to come to my office.

"veronica not this again" she groaned. i smiled sheepishly. "im with brandon!"

"he sucks" i whined, "at least if your going to take someone to meet your parents let them not suck!"

"i'll meet him but no guarentee i'll actually entertain this" she stared at me sternly.

i didnt even try to hide my giddy smile.

"woah hey where are you going?" i stop harley when she tries to fly by me.

she furrowed her eyebrows and looked at me with confusion. "i need to see maven-"

"whatever it is can wait another second. maybe greet your girlfriend first" i pulled her to the side where no one could see us and pressed a small peck against her lips. "i havent seen you since yesterday morning and its afternoon right now, harley"

"i know. i've been busy. i promise, after work i'll tell you about it but i really need to talk to maven right now"

i sighed knowing there was no point in even trying anymore.

"well we have a meeting in twenty minutes so don't make it long, yeah?"

"yes, love. i promise i'll talk to you after work and you look very sexy" she pressed a harsh, quick kiss against my lips leaving me breathless then she walked away quickly.

i looked at the ceiling and fell back against the wall. the way her lips felt against mine felt so good i wish it could've lasted forever.

i miss her.

"what was that?"

my body tensed at the sound of jed voice and i stood straighter so fast.

"what do you mean?" i chuckle nervously trying to play it off.

he narrowed her hazel eyes at me. "you kissing the bosses sister who is also the co-owner of this place"

"you didnt see anything. your imagining it all"

"are you trying to gaslight me?" he burst out laughing making me laugh also.

"okay sorry sorry. yes, we are in a relationship but you cant tell anyone" i decided to give in. he has eyes, he knows what he seen. theres no trying to convince him otherwise.

"does the boss know?"

i chewed my lips trying to decide if i should tell him about that too.

"um.. actually she's uh... shes also in the relationship"

jed jaw dropped. "what?!"

i rubbed the back of my neck shyly. "you cant tell anyone!"

he closed his mouth and swallowed making his adams apple bob.

"yes, yes i got that part i just— what the fuck, vee"

"it just happened! i'll tell you all about it over lunch but for now maybe we should stop standing here?"

"uh yeah come on. well not now because i have to pee but definitely before your off to that meeting i want to know!"

"got it" i nod firmly and he scurries off to the bathroom.
