That's how my life has been for the last 10 and a half years.
However, something started to change when I met the new Spider-Man. he's been on my tail for a good year and a half now ever since he caught me robbing convenience stores back-to-back though he never got a good look at me because I was always in the shadows. a few months ago, on a really bad day for me because I hadn't eaten anything for the past 3 days, as he was chasing me on top of some buildings in Brooklyn, New York City. he was able to catch up to me and chough me in his web. I ended up dropping everything and he was finally able to get a good look at me.
As Spider-Man's eyes widened with surprise, I struggled against the webbing, fear surging through me. Would he turn me over to the authorities? Would he judge me like everyone else? But instead of hostility, his expression softened with understanding.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," he said, his voice muffled by his mask. "I'm not here to hurt you. Just... why? Why are you doing this?"
I hesitated, uncertainty swirling in my mind. No one had ever asked me that before. I glanced away, unable to meet his gaze. "I... I don't have a choice," I muttered, the words barely audible even to myself.
Spider-Man's hand reached out, gently tilting my chin up so our eyes met. "Everyone has a choice. You don't have to keep living like this. There are people who can help you."
Help? I scoffed inwardly. No one had ever helped me before. But there was something in Spider-Man's earnestness, in the warmth of his gaze, that made me want to believe him.
Before I could respond, a shadow fell over us, and I tensed, expecting the worst. But instead of another threat, a figure dressed in ancient-looking armor descended from above, landing gracefully beside us.
"Spider-Man," the newcomer spoke, his voice deep and resonant. "I see you've stumbled upon an interesting individual."
Spider-Man tensed, ready to defend himself, but the newcomer held up a hand in a placating gesture. "No need for alarm. I mean you no harm. I am Usagi, and I have been searching for one such as you, Jade."
I exchanged a puzzled glance with Spider-Man, but before either of us could respond, Usagi continued, "You possess a rare power, one that could be honed and used for a greater purpose. Will you come with me?"
I hesitated, uncertainty gnawing at me. But as I glanced back at Spider-Man, something in his expression softened, a silent encouragement. With a nod, I made my decision.
"Okay," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'll go with you."
And with that, my life took a sudden, unexpected turn, leading me down a path I never could have imagined.
