It had been a dark and stormy night. Not an unusual night for the young vampire Raelynn Emerande. She had actually reveled in these nights. Because these were the nights where she could feast upon mortal's necks without getting caught. At the moment she had been strolling around the streets of Nodbury searching for her target. She had been a bit of a picky eater when it came to mortals. She had always targeted a specific type of human. One that was difficult to come by which caused many struggling nights feasting on the blood of a mortal who tasted of cigarettes and beef. Tonight however had been different. She found the perfect target almost immediately. It had been a tall man with dark hair. She had always went for the tall ones. They had supplied the most blood. Usually she kept them in the dark dreary basement of her mansion.
She walked over to her target and put on a sad expression. She got the man's attention by pulling his sleeve, he had towered over her. It was almost as if she was a child. When in reality she was at the young age of twenty-two. His eyes seemed distant and unbothered as he stared down at her. "Oh hello sir. I'm in great need of assistance sir. See I've been working ever so hard on this birdhouse. But I've dropped it in a hole.. And I'm afraid I can't get it out. Would you mind helping me?" she stared at him with pleading eyes, she had always been a great actress. She's always enjoyed a good play after all. He seemed to be unmoved by her timid demeanor and began to stare at the sidewalk. How dare he look at the sidewalk?! He had an interesting subject right there in front of him. "Excuse me sir." she says again but this time her tone sounded more annoyed. He sighs and stares back up at her.
"No."
"What do you mean no?"
"I said no. I do mind helping you."
"Why is that so?"
"You're so obviously lying. A blind infant could see through you."
"Well that's quite the accusation sir I promise I'm not lying." she narrowed her eyes and he stared her down with those striking green eyes of his. He had seen right through her ruse without even trying! It had usually been so easy for her to convince a man to come help her. Men always want to help because they want to feel important. Obviously they weren't important. Raelynn could handle herself perfectly fine. She's done that her whole life after all. But for some reason this man angered her when he didn't accept her request. It made her forget all about her hunger. It made her much prefer arguing with him.
She was getting her blood.
"I seriously don't think you are telling the truth. Nobody drops birdhouses in holes. That's ridiculous." For some reason when he said that it made her clench her hands, her blood boiling. "Well maybe I do. Anything is possible in life." the man scoffs and rolls his eyes. "Just not dropping birdhouses in holes." She growled. She was about to jump on him and drain all the blood from his stupid tall body. And she'll enjoy seeing the blood drain from his arrogant body. "Why you-"
"I don't enjoy liars wasting my time so if you'll just move away so I can go on my way. This may be hard to believe but some people have things to do besides luring men to their beds." He turned away and walked away. Raelynn wasn't letting him get the last word. Not a nasty, rude mortal. "I wasn't planning on sleeping with you. I prefer men who aren't a bore." She was happy she got the last word. As she always was right. But to her dismay the man turned around and shouted back. "Oh believe me sweetheart I'm not a bore. Too bad you'll never find that out." and with that the asshole turned around and left. Raelynn growled and sat down on the sidewalk. It had been dirty, sure but she needed to have a dramatic moment. She just lost an argument to a mortal! And he called her sweetheart. She hated that. Nobody has the obligation to call her, a rich vampire from a long line of wealthy and promiscuous vampires, a pet name.
She sighed after a few moments and stood back up dusting her long black dress off. Then she went on her way. She was waning hours of darkness so she needed to find a target. That arrogant prick before wasn't going to suit her. She was too good for him anyway.
After two long hours of searching for an ignorant mortal to suck upon their unfortunately tasty blood she found her target- a tall blond man. They had always been the foolhardy ones. It was quick and easy too. She just asked him to help her unlock the front door with her key (it wasn't the real one she couldn't be that stupid) that she's been trying to use to open the door for hours. It had been a good lie, possibly one better than the one with that tall prick of a man. He agreed to this lie because he thought he'd have a chance to bed her. Like he had a fat chance. She wouldn't let that man touch a finger on her hand if she would die from rejecting it.
He was too much of a go-lucky anyway. The man had been practically bouncing off the ground while she walked him to her house. He had shown her how to open it and just as he was about to unlock the door she bit his neck. She covered his mouth before he could scream in agony. Mortals were weak and couldn't handle a mere pierce to the neck. Made Raelynn glad she wasn't one. She couldn't imagine if she was that feeble. It sounded like hell on Earth.
Once he dropped to the ground she had sucked every last drop of his blood. She couldn't hide her scowl as she took the fake key from the mortal's hand. He had already smelled of death and he hadn't been dead for more than five minutes. She groaned as she realized she'd have to drag his body into the basement to rot. It wasn't that she let them rot, she just had to wait for her friend, Ivora, to decide to visit from her quaint city, Karora. She had been a necromancer. She always knew what to do when Raelynn had bodies hidden in her basement. Raelynn couldn't help thinking about seeing Ivora again. Though Ivora had always handled the dirty work of Raelynn's habits they had been great friends all the same. Ivora had been the only non-vampire she actually could tolerate. They were like two peas in a pod sharing the same soul it seemed.
She dropped the body on the floor and almost collapsed under the weight of the mortal. She kicked his body, anger flaring in her chest. She grunted loud when she did as her force was enough to break a spine- which she ended up doing. Now she'll be getting an earful from Ivora when she visits. Her anger had always got ahead of her thinking. It was unfortunately a curse she bore her whole life. She didn't see it as a curse. She saw it as an opportunity to use that built up aggression on feeding on her littles- mortals. Disgusting, weak mortals. They always left bad tastes in her mouth- literally. Their blood always tasted like their personality, sour, disgusting. As she thought back on her night, she hid the heavy body of the man in a prison cell. She tried to hide her anger as she kept tripping over your dress because of this giant mortal. She wanted to break his neck next just for how much she had to go out of her way for his heavy body. The man didn't need to be heaved with so much effort because he didn't deserve her time. He probably had a wife and kids but he was an unfaithful man following her thinking he was getting lucky. Men were horrid, evil creatures. Women barely bothered her that was until they annoyed her. Then they'd get the same treatment she'd usually give to men. That man she met early will be getting the treatment if he crossed paths with her again. Who did that arrogant mortal think he was calling her sweetheart? She wasn't a sweetheart. She was a vampire, a ruthless, evil vampire. And it got under her skin so much that she got ready for bed thinking about it.
Raelynn laid in her coffin desperately trying to sleep but that damned mortal had occupied her mind like blood had when she was losing control of her hunger. It had pissed her off. No mortal deserved that much thought.. So why did this mortal decide to snake his way into her mind, taking away her ability to sleep? She tried to shake the thoughts off and she turned over to sleep. She stared into the darkness of her coffin and thought about how great she was. That always worked for her. She thought and thought about how she was from a legacy family and she didn't have to marry any snobbish vampire king. Her family were independent vampires and her mother raised her exactly that way. To wear her vampire heritage proudly and look down on any mortals who decide to grace her with their disgraceful presence. Then she drifted off to sleep. Her thirst for blood quenched and her mind clear. As it should be.
