"IN THE MAZE OF UNRESOLVED PASTS AND DAUNTING FUTURES, SOMETIMES THE FIRST STEP FORWARD IS SIMPLY ACKNOWLEDGING THE SHADOWS THAT LINGER."

ESHA'S APARTMENT, MUMBAI

The morning sun peeked through the curtains of Esha's Mumbai apartment, casting a warm glow over the room. Esha awoke to the sounds of the city coming alive—horns honking, street vendors calling out their wares, and the occasional distant siren. It was a reminder that she was back in the city she once called home, a city she had left behind with a heavy heart.

Esha stretched and rubbed the sleep from her eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of her dreams. Dreams that were often populated by the faces of old friends and familiar places, especially those involving Reyansh. She had spent the previous night tossing and turning, her mind tangled in thoughts of their past and the challenges ahead.

She got up, made herself a strong cup of chai, and glanced at the clock. It was time to head back to the CIB for the next phase of the investigation. Today would be her first full day back on the job, and she needed to be prepared.

Dressed in a smart, navy-blue blazer and matching trousers, Esha felt a mix of determination and apprehension. She had always prided herself on her professionalism, but the emotional weight of returning to her old team and facing Reyansh added an extra layer of complexity to her usual routine.

CIB HEADQUATER, MUMBAI

Arriving at the CIB headquarters, Esha was greeted with a sense of déjà vu. The same familiar faces, the same buzzing atmosphere—it was as if no time had passed at all. She walked through the corridors, her footsteps echoing off the polished floors. Each step felt like a step back in time, reminding her of the person she used to be and the life she had left behind.

In the briefing room, the team was already assembled. Esha took a deep breath and entered, her presence immediately noted by the murmurs and glances from her colleagues. She felt their curiosity, their surprise, and perhaps a touch of skepticism. It was a reminder that while she had moved on, the team had continued without her.

Reyansh was at the head of the table, his posture relaxed but his eyes sharp. He glanced up as Esha walked in, his gaze meeting hers briefly before shifting back to the documents in front of him. He had always been able to maintain a professional distance, but today, Esha noticed a flicker of something—perhaps surprise or even discomfort.

"Good morning, everyone," Reyansh said, his voice commanding attention. "We're going to get started with the case briefing. Ms. Esha, I trust you've had a chance to review the files?"

"Yes, I have," Esha replied, taking her seat. "I've gone through the case notes and am up to speed on the developments."

"Great," Reyansh said. "We'll start with a summary of what we know so far. The case involves the murder of a prominent politician's daughter, which has been cold for several years. New evidence has emerged suggesting an insider's involvement."
