Hello! My name is Malissa Burkett and here is my story.
On April 4th 2003 my mom went in to labor with me. I was born with a birth defect called cleft lip and palate which isn't common in people.
My 1st surgery was when I was 6 months old. The repaired my lip. Because I was too little to do both repairs at the same time they only did my lip.
Then when I was 15 months old I had my 2nd surgery to repair my palate.
My next surgery was when I was 6 or 7. My family and I call this one the "big surgery." They did scar revision, a nose job, tonsils and adenoids, and they took cartilage from my right ear and put it in my nose because my nose was flat.
Finally my last surgery so far was when I was 9 or 10. They did bone graphing. They took bone from both of my hips and put it on my upper gum line.
