Apple Bloom was in Twilight's castle library as it contains more books on potions than any other library in Ponyville. Not even Zecora had knowledge of some of the potions in the books that were in the library. Apple Bloom went to the corner of the room where the books of potions were as Twilight had shown her once before. She looked at the books and noticed a book with no real label on it. The spine of the book looked worn and torn; it was a pale purple from the years that was put on the book she pulled it out. The cover was covered in dust since it had not been moved in months and Spike could not get all the books dusted off in a day with him having a long list of duties he had. Apple Bloom blew off the dust on the book causing her to cough due to the amount of dust that came off. She looked at the cover which only had an image of potion bottles on the cover. It looked harmless. She softly spoked to herself, "Well Twilight said I should work on my potion making, and this does not look too harmless." She took it to the middle of the room where a crystal table remained. She placed it down on the table, sat down and began to flip through the book. The pages were old and discolor. Some titles were smudged by some sort of water or ink. She landed on a page with the word flower in bold as it was the title of the potion even though the rest of it was smudged by ink she thought it was the potion to make as it seemed harmless enough. She did not bother to read the description of the potion as she was excited to start the potion.

She wrote down the instructions and ingredients of the potion. Afterwards she put the book back on the shelf. She went out into Ponyville and it was busier than ever with a Sunrise Festival approaching. Apple Bloom went around to the stands in the center for the ingredients she needed. Once she got them all, she went to the club house and began following the instructions of the potion to the letter. It took about an hour to make and it went from a dark crimson red to a vibrant orange. She then drank the potion without a second thought to see what would happen. When nothing happened she got disappointed. She sat down frowning thinking about what she did wrong. She was too young to realize the mistake of drinking potion not knowing what it was. She was snapped out of her thoughts as her older sister AppleJack called her as it was time to do the chores on the farm.

As the day continued Apple Bloom's vision began to blur and she yelled, "AppleJack I can't see well." AppleJack came over to look at her and she noticed that Apple Bloom's orange eyes seemed to be a pale orange. AppleJack got worried about her sister going blind but did not want to worry Apple Bloom. AppleJack said in a soft tone, "Sugarcube maybe we should get you inside so you can rest up." AppleJack put Apple Bloom on her back gently and got her up to her room. AppleJack put Apple Bloom in the bed and put the blanket on her. Apple Bloom fell asleep and AppleJack walked out as not to walk her. Once AppleJack was out of the room she raced to Twilight's castle. She knocked on the huge doors, which Spike answered the door, and led her to Twilight.

Spike announced, "Hey AppleJack is here for you Twilight." Twilight poked her head up over the book she was reading. Twilight looked at AppleJack as she asked, "What is up? This is an unexpected visit." AppleJack panted as she said, "Well I think Apple Bloom is going blind and I don't know what I am going to do or tell her." Twilight responde, "AppleJack, are you sure she is going blind." She nodded her head as she explained how Apple Bloom eyes looked. Twilight looked baffled and said, "I look into what could be causing this." AppleJack nodded her name as she said, "I will keep an eye on her." She headed back to the farm and headed to bed.

The next day Apple Bloom could not see at all she also did not feel like herself. Her body felt like it was on fire on the inside. She scratched herself. She kept going till she heard someone shout , "APPLE BLOOM WHAT IN THE HAY ARE YOU DOING TO YOURSELF? YOUR HURTING YOURSELF." Apple Bloom stopped what she did not know was she had scratched herself so hard that she was bleeding. Her cutie mark was the most scratched up part. AppleJack sat her down, put ointment on her wounds and bandaged her up.
