The bell rings, the fight begins.
With a wide grin Jack watched the hallways of Gotham City High School fill with students up to every corner, bullies already tending to their victims by shoving them into lockers and stealing their lunch money, the gossip girls keeping their greedy eyes out for anything to post in hope to go viral and become more than just a pity single pringle and last but not least the usual bourgeoise, Gotham's rich kids clinging onto their phones while unsuspectingly searching for their classrooms. Jack watched them all leeringly, the looks on their self absorbed faces as the first and then a few rooms later the second and barely a moment after three more doors were opened and the students entering greeted with a plate of shaving cream shooting at their faces.
The green eyed observer broke out into loud laughter watching the scene in front of him as one after the other opened another door, clueless as a newborn baby because none of them thought of lifting their gazes from their phones for the slightest second.
"Holy shit, the Joker struck again!", the first began to whisper amongst each other, widening their eyes in fear to be the unknown prankster's next victim.
Whoever they were, they didn't like bullies either. As Harvey Dent punched Barry Allen's locker open to teach him not to bring less than ten bucks a day for him, he was suddenly washed over by a wave of green, glittery slime that knocked the bully to the ground and left young Barry laughing before he quickly snapped the brute's wallet from his pocket and run across the hallway as fast as he could. A fast kid he was, Jack thought to himself, watching Dent's friends chase him across the whole school until they'd slip on a plate of Lego, causing them to hit the ground with face forward and ribs directly into a whole set of plastics.
"There's nothing quite as painful as stepping on a Lego", Jack giggled and turned away as suddenly he felt himself running into someone. He stumbled a step back and looked at the guy in front of him, nearly as huge as a wall with muscles of steel and- he was handsome?"Hey Al, d'you mind dropping me here?", Bruce asked his butler on his ride to his first day of school back in Gotham, pointing to the sidewalk next to them.
"But Sir, it still is nearly a mile left to the school grounds"
"Yeah but I don't want people's first impression of me being my money. Been gone for three years after all, that's enough time to lose a reputation and gain a new one and I don't want this one to backfire"
"Very well then", the elder sighed but insisted on driving another hundred meters before he stopped the limousine by the sidewalk and wished his Master a joyful first day at school. Before he could unpack his own stories of being a senior around two millennia back on the middle of the street, Bruce had already started jogging down the road until he'd see the huge sign saying "Gotham City High School" not too far anymore. He'd describe himself as in good shape so when he finally arrived, ten minutes early, he hadn't even broken a sweat and calmly tried navigating across the many hallways of his new school, at first searching for the secretary's office so he could grab his schedule.
Even before he had his muscles and looks, people around him admired him like a treasure but this was high school, everything was more extreme. As he set first foot into the building, people were already snapping their heads to him, whispering, some even approaching him.
Suddenly feeling like an animal in a zoo, Bruce walked away from the masses, looking for someone who, though it was hard to belief, didn't know him. Someone approachable, someone-
Bruce turned around and suddenly felt he had run into someone, someone who was slightly shorter than him, much thinner and..
had bright green hair?Of course this was the place where everyone dressed differently, wore their hair an unusual way and wore whatever makeup was new but he, the meagre, green haired boy with a grin so bright it could cure cancer and clothes all purple and ripped, he stuck out and Bruce couldn't look away.
"Oh hey there, handsome", the boy now greeted the tall guy with a chuckle, his eyes clearly studying him just as closely and Bruce felt at loss for words. Did that guy just- call him handsome? He didn't know what to do so he backed away a few steps, not losing sight of the deep red grin in front of him.
"You must be new here! It's nice to meet you, I'm Jack!"
Jack held his hand out for Bruce to shake which he, if only reluctantly, did as suddenly he felt a strong arm being wrapped around his neck and he was pulled to the side, abruptly knocking his gaze away from the green haired kid.
Totally perplexed, Bruce raised his head to find himself looking at a pair of familiar eyes.
"What's up, Wayne?"
"Clark?"
Bruce looked at his old childhood best friend and a smile grew on his face.
"The one and only", the guy laughed and Bruce let out a relieved chuckle.
"I can't believe it's you!"
"Yeah what's it been? Three years? Heard you moved to Switzerland!"
"I did, I just returned to Gotham last week"
"Yeah, that was hard to miss with it all over the news! So what have you been up to? Already settled in? Tried the ladies?"
Bruce shook his head with a humble laugh.
"Not yet, I was looking for the secretary's office and that boy there-"
Bruce turned around but the boy was gone and with him, the brightness within the hallway was too.
"You mean Jack White?"
Clark suddenly tightened his grip until Bruce started feeling a little sore around his neck.
"Let me tell you something, if you know what's good for you, you better stay away from that creep."
"Why?"
"That guy means trouble! You seen that grin of his? He's a fucking maniac, I tell you!"
"Well-"
Bruce didn't know what to say to that, after all, Clark's been here longer than him and knew the people better. Besides, if he was being honest with himself, he did feel a little creeped out by that grin of Jack's and the way his toxic green eyes pierced themselves through his. He swallowed harshly and followed as Clark showed him the school until the bell rang and the hallways slowly emptied until all that was left were the knocked over bullies holding their ribs and arms crushed by the Lego and Dent washing the slime out of his hair in the restrooms.
