Brady Carter
Today was my opening game for the season, I've played many, many games throughout my life so this one was just like the rest. It was 2:47 PM on a normal Thursday afternoon, in October. I had a game at four and I was currently in my limo with my best friend Nathan on my way to the court.
"Dude I swear that if there are no hot girls at this game I'm leaving early!" Nathan explained to me. He says this every time but, he never actually leaves. Truth be told he actually likes watching my games and he just doesn't want me to know.
"I know man, you tell me every time!" I explain to him looking out the window. I don't have time to indulge a conversation I need to get into my game mode. I didn't turn around, but I could just sense that Nathan probably rolled his eyes at that comment.
The rest of the car ride was pretty relaxing, Nathan's phone was hooked up to the aux, and since me and him of a pretty similar music taste, we just kind of vibed. We mostly listen to Frank Ocean mixed in with a bit of Daniel Caesar and some Drake. We always got to have some Drake before a game.
" Your telling me its only been a couple other people that you've been with. I'mma trust you, I'mma give you the benefit of the doubt, and I'mma love you, you can even call me daddy give you someone to look up to. All my girls from the 504 needa drop it right now, needa drop it right now. All my girls from the 504 needa drop it right now, needa drop it right now!!!" me and Nathan sang along to Drake before we were rudely cut off by the limo driver turning off the song.
"Hey! What was that for?!" Nathan yelled at the limo driver.
" Sorry sir, but we're here." my driver stated, pointing out the window to the court.
"Oh okay sorry" Nathan said sitting back down in his seat.
Me and Nathan slowly un-buckled our seatbelts and climbed out the back of the limo. I grabbed my gear from the back and said goodbye to my limo driver as we walked into the court. As we were walking in, we were met by multiple paparazzi taking pictures of me and Nathan, reporters trying to ask questions, and fans trying to get pictures. Honestly, usually before a game is when I like to take pictures with fans rather than after when I'm tired and sweaty, so I took a few pictures, Nathan did as well, and then we went inside. Before you ask, Nathan does not play basketball with me but he's an actor, so everybody kind of knows him as well.
When I got into the changing room I was immediately greeted by my team and my coach, turns out i was the last one to get there. I looked down at my watch, "3:39 p.m." it stated, I don't remember the drive being that long but it's all good, I'm still here on time. I would just have to get dressed quickly.
" Come on boy let's hurry this up! You're already a bit late!" my coach said, patting me on the back as he left the changing room.
" You ready for the game hot stuff?" my teammate Connor asked me. We used to play on the same team in college and we both went pro the same year. Honestly, if I had never met him, I don't know if I would even be here today.
" Yes, I'm totally ready, like always, don't doubt my skills!" I said back in a sarcastic tone, changing my shirt into my jersey.
" OK OK don't be too humble!" he joked since clearly I wasn't.
Eventually, everybody got changed and the game started. I was starting, duh. Whiles Connor was on the bench. It has been about four minutes and I just shot the first shot of the game, making the score 2-0.
After the game is over, I was in the changing room changing, laughing with my team and celebrating. We obviously won. With an easy 48-17 win. With me, of course, being MVP of the game.
When I'm leaving the court, there's obviously multiple fans and paparazzi everywhere. Today I decide to switch it up and just take a couple pictures with some fans after the game. In the back behind everyone, I noticed paparazzi with a camera down to her feet not paying attention scrolling on her phone. How could she not want a picture with me?
"Hey man, do you see that girl over there? Shes totally acting like we're not cool!" I said Nathan, I've never met someone who doesn't want my autograph.
" What the heck! she must not know who we are!" Nathan says back, trying to make me feel better, but he obviously doesn't care.
" Dude I'm being serious everybody else here cares why would she even come if she doesn't care?" I said to Nathan while's walking up to her.
" Oh, what are you gonna do?!" Nathan says noticing me walking over.
" I'm gonna ask her why she's even here if she doesn't care!" I say back, not turning around.
" Brady I really don't think that's necessary" Nathan says behind me.
" Just like it wasn't necessary for her to come if she doesn't care about us!" I say walking right in front of her.
" Brady you're acting really self-centred right now!" Nathan says.
" How I just wanna know why she's here, that's pretty fair!"
"Yes, but there's like 100 other people out here right now who want a picture with you? Why does it matter who doesn't?" Nathan says, pointing to all the other people standing outside.
"It matters to me OK!" I say, finally decided to ignore him and ask the girl why she's here.
"Ugh, OK you do you man!" I see Nathan turn around and continue to take pictures with people who want to take pictures with him.
"Hey! what's your problem?!" I say the girl in front of me. She's quite beautiful to say the least but still, I wanna know why she's here.
"Excuse me?!" She says back, obviously annoyed with my tone.
"What are you doing here if you don't want a picture with me?!" I say slightly annoyed.
"Why does it matter? There's like 1 million other people who want a picture." She says doing with Nathan did and pointing to everybody else around.
"Yeah, so? I want to know why you're here!" I say, focussing my attention back to her.
"You know not everybody's obsessed with you!" She says, turning around and leaving.
"What! No, you can't just leave!" I say, starting to follow her a little.
"Yes, I can you don't control me!" She says, getting into a car and driving away. Ugh, she's so annoying. Why isn't she obsessed with me??
