Chapter Three
It’s gonna be my last day. I’m going home. The next morning I packed my bags. I waited for my mom and brother to wake up before I go. I prepared breakfast for them.
“You’re up early” my brother observed.
“Yeah, you too” I told him
“I’m going back home” I told him and I saw his face soured. “Don’t you make that face in front of me” I said.
“When will you go back here?” he asked.
“Next year” I told him. He pulled a seat on the dining table and sat down. He was sulking.
“Can I visit you?” he asked, hopeful.
“No” I answered. “I’m afraid you can’t”
“Why not?” he asked.
“You just can’t, okay? How about I call you every day?” I offered.
“Can you do that?”
“No but I’ll try to call oftentimes” I assured him. He nodded and took the toast and bacon.
After breakfast I made some calls before I go. As I was putting my luggage on the back of the car, someone covered my eyes with hands.
“Who’s this?” I asked but no answer.
“I said who are you?” I repeated. “Hunt?” I guessed.
“No” the voice answered and I recognized it at once. He removed his hands off my face and I faced him.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him.
“What are you doing?” he countered.
“I’m going home?” I told him.
“Is this about last night?” he asked loudly. I silenced him.
“No. It’s been set that I go home today” I told him.
“Yeah?”
“Yes” I said.
“Can I call you?” he asked.
“Why? For what?” I asked him.
“Can I call you?” he asked again and looked at me intensely.
“I’m…No” I said.
“Can I get your address then?” he asked.
“No! Of course not!” I told him.
“Why?” he asked.
“I don’t give my address to anyone” I told him.
“You’re impossible” he muttered in disbelief. “Anyway, I‘ll find you” he said and about to walk away.
“Hey! Wait!” I called out.
“Changed your mind?” he asked.
“What do you mean by I’ll find you?” I asked.
“It’s what it means, baby” he said. I flinched at his word “baby”.
“Are you serious?” I asked.
“Yes” he replied and smiled.
“You can’t do that! Do you hear me?” I shouted. “You’re not gonna do that!” I said.
“You don’t own my life. You can’t order me around” he said and walked away. I ran after him. When I reached him I held his elbow and things happened so fast. He held my hand and kissed me. It was a short kiss because I pushed him quickly.
“What are you doing!” I exclaimed.
“Goodbye kiss” he said.
“Please I’m begging you. Don’t go looking for me” I said.
“You seriously believe me? I was just kidding. I’m pretty busy myself to do unnecessary things. Why so nervous?” he asked.
“Oh” I sighed in relief. “Thank God” I said. “Goodbye then” I said and went back to the car. It’s important to me that no one knows where I live. It’s called security.
When I went back, my home felt so lonely. I went in there and check Lolly. Lolly is the only thing who keeps me accompanied all the time and he had to be all by himself when I went to visit my family in UK. He looks well thanks to my kind neighbor, Bob, who fed him well everyday. When he saw me, he went out of his little house and snuggled me. He smelt odd.
“You haven’t taken a bath since I left, am I right?” I asked him and he answered me by licking my face.
“You’re back!” It was Bob.
“Yes. Thank you for taking care of my little boy” I thanked him.
“It’s no big deal. I could only feed him. He didn’t want me to wash him up” Bob said.
“He doesn’t feel comfortable being washed by anyone but me” I told him.
“That must be the reason why” he said. “Lolly, you’re with your mom now. Are you happy?” Bob talked to Lolly. Lolly barked three times which means yes. Lolly knows a lot of trick. I taught him some while he learned the others by just watching me. He’s a smart dog. He’s been with me since he was born. I took him from an orphanage. An orphan kid named Richard gave him to me. He saw Lolly being born. I was passing by the orphanage when I saw Richard at the gate with a little puppy.
“Wow. He’s cute” I said as I stopped.
“Yes. Her mom left him here. Her mom’s a smart dog. She knew she can’t take care of him so she sent him here” Richard explained.
“Do they take pets in here too?” I asked.
“No” he said sadly. “Pets are not allowed here” he added.
“How are you gonna take care of him?” I asked.
He just shook his head. I wasn’t really fond of pets that time so the idea of fostering the dog didn’t come in my mind. I was about to go when he called me.
“Can you take him?” he asked.
“Oh I’m sorry I can’t. I don’t know how to take care of dogs” I said.
“You just have to feed him. You don’t have to let him inside the house” he said.
I felt pity all of a sudden so without any second thoughts I took him. I named him Lolly because he loves Lollipops.
From that then on Lolly is with me all the time. I take him wherever I go. I was heartbroken when I had to leave him because he couldn’t come with me to the airport.
“Do you want me to wash you?” I asked him.
He barked three times again.
