"Your first day right ?" Mom asks as I hold the phone up to my ear with my shoulder as I slip on my heels. Completing my outfit consisting of a pair of  bubblegum pink colored dress pants, and a tucked in white button up blouse, and a matching bubblegum pink blazer. My hair is pinned back with a black clip and loose curls fall over my shoulders down my back. My face sports a full face of makeup, my eye shadow Smokey and a bright red lip. My brown eyes more hazel today than usual, most likely nerves.

"Yeah and I'm super freaking nervous ma. I'll call you when I get off to let you know how it goes, wish me luck" I slide my laptop into my bag along with any chargers I may need, an extra notebook and my iPad mini as well. Making sure my bag is packed with everything I need before grabbing my keys off the hook.

"You don't need luck baby, have a good day." She ended the call quickly. Moving away from home was hard for my mom more than me. I was used to only having my mom around, my dad was nowhere to be found growing up. I stopped asking about him shortly after I turned six. It was just my mom, my brother, sister, and then me. I'm the youngest out of the three and the last to move out. She let me stay all throughout college to avoid dorm/ housing fees. But I really think it was her way of preparing herself to let me go. I've only been in Seattle for a few weeks when I landed this job.

"Katherine St. Claire." I tell the front desk receptionist, who types my name into something. Going through a folder, she pulls out my identification card and hands me it.

"Just have a seat, I'll have someone come grab you, Miss. St. Claire, Welcome to Brights Publishing Company." She motions towards the chairs with her dainty hands and I smile.

"Thank you." I take a seat across from her and place my bag in my lap. Securing the ID's clip to my belt loop that rests right above my belly button with these high rise dress pants. It was only a few minutes before an older woman was walking towards me.

"Ms. St. Claire I presume ? Please follow me." She motions towards the elevator and I stand quickly.

"Yes that's me." Throwing my bag over my shoulder again, I wave to the receptionist, who returns it quickly as she adverts her attention to another guest.

There's no small talk with this older woman as I wait beside her in the elevator. I nervously play with my watch as it lights up with a text from my mother. I flick it away and fold my hands over my lap. The elevator dings, opening the doors and allowing the older woman to step out and for me to follow. Which i do.

"This is your desk here, Mr. Brights office is there so he can see you at all times. Let me introduce you to him. Set your bag down." She motions to the desk in front of us which is to the left corner of Mr. Bright's office. I do as I'm told and fix my blazer once the bag isn't pushing it sideways.

She knocks softly, but loud enough for Mr. Bright to look up from his desk, the phone he's talking on gets hung up as he waves us both inside. I stand closer to the exit as she heads straight for his desk.

"Miss. Rose, who's this?" He asks softly.

"Hi Mr. Bright, I wanted to introduce you to my replacement. This is Katherine St. Claire, Katherine come meet Mr. Ethan Bright." She waves me over as he stands, fixing his suit jacket as he walks around his desk.

His soft brown hair was pushed back, curling at the ends. Bright blue eyes. His dark grey suit is tight in all the right places, outlining his muscular form. He's so tall I have to look up at him, and I'm in heels, which seems to provide no help to his overall height.
