December - Five Months
Harry wakes up for work more sleepy than usual. He puts his hair into a bun without brushing it, scrubbing a palm across his eyes as he drags himself from his bed. His feet feel swollen and numb, aching as he goes through the motions of getting dressed. It seems that every bone in his body hurts, his joints grating against each other. He brushes his teeth, gagging at the thought of food, and bundles himself into his coat and scarf.
As it gets closer to Christmas, the weather gets even worse. But Harry has been braving the cold and walking to work anyways, taking a different route every few days to avoid the media. He knows it's getting too cold, but it's the only kind of exercise he ever really gets.
Once he gets the front door unlatched though, Niall is shouting his name and barrelling down the stairs. "What the fuck are you doing? It's literally snowing outside!"
Harry opens the door a crack and glances out. Niall's right, it is snowing. It's not coming down in droves though, he'd be fine to walk.
"And you're not even wearing shoes. Jesus, Harry, come here." Niall puts his arm around Harry's shoulders, leading him to the living room sofa and sitting him down. Harry looks down at his own mismatched socks, one with polka dots and the other with hearts. Niall returns with Harry's snow boots, kneeling down and helping Harry get his feet in comfortably.
"Thanks Niall," Harry says quietly, flexing his sore ankles in the boots. "I didn't even realise."
"Are you okay H? You look a bit peaky." Niall pushes up on his knees, placing the back of his hand on Harry's cheek and then his forehead. Harry takes a deep breath and shakes him off, trying to force a cheery smile.
"I'm all good, just a little forgetful. Pregnancy brain, ya know?" He heaves himself up from the couch, re-wrapping his scarf which had come loose.
Niall steps in front of him, fiddling with his curls with his eyebrows pulled tight in the middle. "There's no way you're walking to work in this. I'll drive you, come on."
Harry shakes his head, dislodging his curls from Niall's fingers. "It's really not that bad Niall. I'll walk to work, and you can come pick me up when my shift is over?" Harry offers, sensing the wariness in the other omega. "I don't take the same route every day, so I've not been followed to the bakery. I go in the back entrance. Everything will be fine."
"I'm more worried about the weather, H." The two peer out the living room window. The snow is still light, but there's a considerable amount dusting the street and pavement. "What if you slip and fall? You could hurt yourself, and little baby."
Harry draws his bottom lip between his teeth, hands automatically moving to cup around his stomach in protection. The thought of such a thing occurring makes his heart speed up, worry furrowing his brow. Sighing, he lifts his wrist to check his watch. "I'll be late if I walk now."
Niall's features seem to relax instantly, and the blonde hurries to pull his own winter gear on, snatching the keys from their peg by the door. He shoves his feet in his boots as Harry opens the front door, making his way carefully down the drive to the car with Niall close behind him. He gets in almost mindlessly, closing the door and staring straight ahead at the front of their house.
"-Harry?"
"Hmm what?" He turns his head to Niall in the drivers seat, rubbing the back of his hand across his eyes.
"You gonna put your buckle on?"
"Oh!" Harry startles, reaching for his seatbelt and clicking it into place. "Yeah, sorry. I don't know what's with me today."
