LEGACY YEAR BEGINS.

PENNY

Penelope Pea, or Penny, as she liked to be called took a deep breath as the carriage she was riding came to a stop in front of her school, Ever After High. The princess watched as other students exited their various modes of transportation with their respective servant and alike helping with their luggage. She couldn't help but feel a little bit of dread start to bubble in her chest, which was fueled by her mother going on another one of her famous lectures. Her father was at home, attending to more important matters than seeing his daughter off to school.

Anyway, this particular lecture was about how her third year must go perfectly. Her mother stressed the importance of her third year at Ever After High — and Penny knew she was right. Legacy Year, as it was officially named, was the year where students signed their names in the legendary Storybook of Legends and pledged to follow the same path as their parents on Legacy Day. Every person in Ever After learned the importance of Legacy Day as early as they could speak.

"Penelope, are you even listening to me?" her mother snapped. Priscilla Pea, the woman known for sleeping, was not as passive as most people would expect her to be. She was a woman who commanded respect and was the epitome of a Queen. Even now, as she was nagging Penny, she sat in the carriage looking regal as ever with posture that had taken years to perfect. While mild-mannered, she possessed an intimidating aura; Priscilla Pea was someone you did not want to cross.

"Of course I am, Mother," Penelope responded in a quiet and meek voice. The lie burned on her tongue, but she couldn't admit to ignoring her mother. Penelope didn't make it a habit to disrespect her parents, especially her mother in this way, but it wasn't like she hadn't heard the same thing all summer leading up to Legacy Year.

Priscilla gave her a look; Penelope knew she didn't believe her, but her mother went on regardless. "Penelope," She said in a scarcely calm tone. "You know how important this year is for our family."

Penelope nodded. "Yes," she said in a flat tone. "It's Legacy Year."

"Exactly!" Priscilla gave a smile that was much too sweet to be real. "We both know that our story isn't as loved as your friend's stories. We don't have an exciting evil to face and we're not being poisoned," she scoffed at this. "But that doesn't mean there aren't eyes on you. You are a princess, and that is something people care about. Being a princess is a big responsibility to have, and I expect for you to act like a girl of your status."

"I will. You don't have to worry about that." Penelope assured.

Priscilla gave her daughter a look, her eyebrow raised in skepticism. "You may leave now. I will see you in a few month's time during your break."
