Lili and Spencer are baking cookies to hand out to the shelters in Norfolk.
"Okay, so now that we mixed the dry ingredients, we need to start with the wet ingredients."Lili says.
"Yes."Spencer nods, patting the stand mixer."I'm ready."
"First we add the melted butter and the golden yellow sugar."she passes the bowls to her son.
"On which speed Mummy?"
"Uh, medium."
Spencer turns it on and then adds the sugar to the butter. She then passes him the normal sugar and he adds it to the mixture.
"Mummy, why are you and Aunt Kate pregnant at the same time?"
"I don't know baby."she says, passing him the egg, vanilla extract, and lemon zest."Maybe we were meant to have babies at the same time this time."
"And you're having two like Aunt Kins."
Lili hums, halving the dry ingredients. They had to tell them but asked them to keep it a secret because it was a surprise for the entire family and their kids were nothing if not obedient to their parents.
"Turn the speed to low as you add this in."she gives him the bowl.
"Why half only?"
"Its to build up air and make our biscuits light and fluffy once it's baked."
Spencer nods, then takes the other bowl that his mother hands him. Lili turns it to the medium low speed. While Spencer watches the mixing, Lili chops the ruby and white chocolate.
"So now we go back to the low speed and then add this until its evenly distributed."
"Yes Mummy."
Lili went to blot the strawberries and toss it in flour. She takes a rubber spatula and tells Spencer to turn the mixer off.
"Now, we take our floured strawberries and we gently fold it into the batter."
"What does that mean?"
"What does what mean?"
"What does 'fold it in' mean?"he asks, leaning his hands on the counter and looking at his mother.
"Well, it means that we have to carefully combine the batter and strawberries together into one mixture."
"Oh okay."
Lili nods and scraps the mixture together.
"What's happening in here?"Theo asks as he walks into the kitchen.
"We're making strawberry and ruby chocolate chunk cookies."Spencer tells his father while Lili covers the dough and puts it in the fridge.
"Okay, now we let it chill for an hour then we can scoop it onto the baking tray."Lili tells her son."Oh hi honey."
