Monday came. Avery was sitting in an exam room at the hospital. There was a knock on the door and a young blonde haired man walked into the room, who she already knew to be Dr. Cullen.
"Hello Avery. I'm Dr. Cullen." Carlisle greeted. "But, I'm sure you already knew that."
Avery nodded. "It's nice to meet you." She said.
"And you as well." Carlisle said.
"Since I've never treated you before, is it alright if I do a full physical?"
"That's fine." Avery said.
"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?" Carlisle asked.
"It's fine." Avery replied.
"How long have you've had migraines for?" Carlisle asked.
"For about six years since I was eight." Avery answered. "I also have a tendency to have nausea frequently."
"Did that start when you started getting migraines?" Carlisle asked.
"I guess." Avery replied.
"Could you explain what happens during a migraine?" Carlisle asked. "Do you get dizzy or light headed? Become sensitive to certain light or sound?"
"Yeah, I get light headed during a migraine." Avery explained. "And have to be in a quiet, dark room."
"Do you get the nausea during a migraine?" Carlisle questioned.
"Yes." Avery said. "But, I'll also get it when I don't have a migraine."
"What happens during one of your nausea episodes?" Carlisle asked.
"I'll get a sudden urge out of the blue to throw up persistently. I also get a fever wherever I have either." Avery explained. "I've been to many doctors and all they say is it's a stomach bug every time."
"I understand you're a competitive gymnast." Carlisle said. "I'm sure that can get stressful at times."
Avery sighed. "No offense, but I don't need another doctor lecturing me on how stressful being a competitive athlete is and that it's most likely the cause of my migraines and nausea."
"I was actually going to ask how you handle your migraines and nausea while training and competing." Carlisle said.
"Oh." Avery said. "I handle it pretty well during those times."
"Have you ever had a migraine or nausea episode come on during those times?" Carlisle asked.
"Once in a while, but not very often." Avery replied.
"Do you take any medications for either of these?" Carlisle asked.
"Just Tylenol or ibuprofen." Avery replied.
Carlisle nodded. "Well if you don't mind, I'll start with the physical exam." He said.
"Go ahead." Avery said.
Carlisle walked over to the counter to put gloves on.
"Can you come stand over here?" He asked. "I'm just going to get your height and weight."
Avery went over to where he was.
"I apologize for going off on you. I know you're just trying to help." She said. "I'm aware that being a competitive athlete can be stressful, but I love doing gymnastics."
"It's quite alright, Avery." Carlisle said as he took her blood pressure. "As long as you aren't seriously risking your health, I have no right or see no reason to tell you you can't do gymnastics."
"I even hope to make it to the Olympics one day." Avery added.
"That's quite an accomplishment." Carlisle said. He continued through the exam.
"Um. I do need to draw some blood." Carlisle said, once he finished everything else.
Avery just nodded. She had never been a fan of needles, but knew it needed to be done.
Carlisle got some supplies out and drew some of Avery's blood.
"Well, everything looks great, Avery." Carlisle said. "You're good to go."
"Could I get a doctor's note explaining my migraines and nausea for my gymnastics coach?" Avery asked. "Back in Phoenix, my gymnastics was aware of my episodes since they would sometimes happen during practice."
"Of course." Carlisle said. "If you don't mind waiting a few minutes in the waiting room, I can bring that out to you."
"Thank you." Avery said, before heading out to the waiting room.
Bella was waiting for her with Bentley.
"Everything good?" Bella asked.
"Yep." Avery answered.
"Ready to go?" Bella asked.
"Just hang on sec." Avery said. "He needs to get a doctor's note for me to give my new gymnastics coach."
Bentley started to make a motion towards the entrance.
"We'll go in a minute, boy." Avery said as she grabbed a treat out of her backpack and gave it to him. "You've been such a good boy. You deserve a treat."
Carlisle came out and handed Avery the note.
"Thanks Carlisle." Bella said.
"Yes, thank you." Avery said.
"You're certainly welcome." Carlisle said. "It was nice meeting you, Avery."
"You as well, Dr. Cullen." Avery said.
The two Swan girls bid Carlisle goodbye and left the hospital.
