Deep down below the surface of the ground we walk on, an entire species thrives. Humans that have special abilities, certain attributes. The city of Jolavania has existed for as long as cavemen and dinosaurs roamed the Earth, but no one knows about it, except for the people that get randomly bitten by one of these creatures, known as vampires to you and me. Yes, that's right. You thought they got started in Transylvania with Dracula and them? Complete and total stereotypes and rip-offs. Jolavania is the real fuckin' deal.

The ruler over all of Jolavania was a king named Draven, and he ruled for almost all of the world's existence. For the past couple of years though, he seemed to have come down with a deathly ailment that left him unable to move and properly fulfill his duties. He never ruled alone though, as he did have a wife, Nerezza, who helped him out, and he was forever grateful for her. Draven and Nerezza were what we would call 'high school sweethearts', as they dated for seemingly forever and married some few years after that.

They soon had a daughter, Akasha, who was a good kid, but as she grew up she adopted a kind of rebellious streak and constantly went behind her royal parent's backs. Now, as a young adult, Akasha didn't seem like she wanted to do anything besides hang with her friends and get fucked up. Her parents were very disappointed, and especially while Draven fell ill, as they wanted her to help out a lot more.

"Akasha, be a dear and help your father go through these laws, see which ones we can pass." Nerezza said to her one day.

"Mom, I'm busy." Akasha said, looking up from her phone as she laid on her bed.

"Playing Ruby Crush and scrolling Vampagram all day is not being busy. Now please don't make me repeat myself."

Akasha hissed and bared her fangs at her before getting up and storming out of the room. She walked through the castle they all lived in until she reached Draven's room. Draven was sitting up in his bed, papers strewn about on the blankets in front of him. He looked up and gave a weak smile when he saw Akasha enter the room. "It is nice to finally see you, I thought you were gonna be cooped up in your room for the rest of your life." he said.

"That was the plan," she mumbled under her breath as she sat at the foot of the bed. "What are the council requesting today?"

"Oh, I've seen some interesting ones that the council decided to throw my way. Like, listen to this one." Draven said, holding a piece of paper up. "They want stop signs."

"Stop signs?"

"Yeah, humans use them to stop their automobiles up there."

"Well, I mean it's not like we don't need those. We don't even have those down here. Walking and speed running are our way to get around." Akasha said with a laugh.

"Yes, I'm glad you see it my way." Draven said as he took his stamp that says VETO and stamped it on the paper, placing the paper on his nightstand.

"Daddy, can I ask you something?" Akasha asked.

"What is it, sweetheart?" Draven asked as he skimmed through another piece of paper.

She hesitated before she continued. "What's gonna happen, since you got sick?"

Draven put his paper aside and coughed into his arm. "Well, me and your mother always talked about what would happen. We already decided that you would be next in line for the throne. We may be immortal but sickness stays with us, unless a cure comes." he said.

"They haven't been able to find a cure for years." Akasha replied. "Also, don't a king and a queen usually rule Jolavania? How in the world are you gonna find a king?"

"Oh, we already found one for you. I had one of my associates bite his neck. That sealed his fate. He's up there, and I want you to look at him and see how he looks for yourself."

"What? You didn't even think to ask me what I thought about all of this!" Akasha said with exasperation.

"Well what were you expecting to do for the rest of your life? Play your silly little games on your phone?"

"Actually, I was thinking of having a career as a model." Akasha said, getting up and flashing a smile. "Anastasia said I can also make a shit ton of money on OnlyVamps just by showing my feet."

"I don't understand the youth today..." Draven said with a hint of cringe in his voice.

"Well, I'm already set on what I want to do." Akasha said, crossing her arms.

"Can you at least see what he looks like before you change your mind?" Draven asked, looking up at her. "Please?"

Akasha looked back at her father and pouted, poking her bottom lip out. "I don't wanna."

"Come on, I know you secretly want to go up to the surface." Draven said. "All those times when you were younger and you kept asking me what it was like up there? You were such an inquisitive little vampire." He put his hand over his heart. "You were so darn cute."

"Were?"

"Don't interrupt." Draven said abruptly, then cleared his throat. "I'm sorry, I'm just a little bit tense right now. If I wasn't feeling like this, your mother and I could properly help you prepare to rule the throne."

"Dad, I don't know about this." Akasha said with a sigh.

Draven sat up in bed and motioned for Akasha to come closer. She got back on the bed and sat closer to him. "Akasha, listen to me, ever since the beginning of time, this family has been destined to rule over all of the vampires of Jolavania. Before me, my father ruled, and his father ruled, and his father ruled, and so on and so forth." he said. "You are part of a long line of descendants who are heirs to the throne, and down the line, you will have kids that will be next in line. If you don't take the throne, you're letting future generations down. We don't want that, do we?"

Akasha shook her head from side to side slowly. "I guess not."

"Please, at least do this for me." Draven said.

Akasha let out a breathy sigh and nodded. "Okay Daddy, I'll go see the guy." she finally agreed. "But I won't like it." she added with sarcasm.

Draven chuckled and pulled her into a hug. "You'll be fine, I promise."
