The massive high school towers over all the other buildings in this bustling urban area. It's like the school stands at the center of the entire world. It brings in top students from every field imaginable.
A government-funded school of privilege. They say that if you come here and manage to graduate, you'll be set for life. With hundreds of years of tradition, it sends the cream of the crop into the work force every year. It was built to raise hope in the nation's future. Which makes Hope's Peak a fitting name.
There are two things you need to attend this school... One, you must already be attending high school. Two, you must be the very best at what you do. No ordinary student could enroll here. The only way in is if you're scouted by the school itself.
And standing there at the gate of the ultimate school filled with the ultimate students...
...was me.
Wait... Is that flower... frowning at me? Actually, hold on... Why am I standing in front of a high school? I'm not nearly big enough a boy for this! And that flower... is moving its mouth now? It has a mouth. Okay.
"Clover!" Shouted the talking flower, which startled me.
I found my resolve and spoke up. "What are you? How do you know my name?"
"Oh, I know lots of things." Its eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled, but it quickly turned into a frown once again. "...Except for where we are right now! I've been all over the Underground, trust me, and I have never seen anything like this!"
Underground? "...We're above ground."
"...What?" It stared at me incrediously. "How? When? Did I somehow fall asleep while you were fighting? No, that can't be it. Even if you made it to ASGORE, there's no way you could've gotten past... the..." It gradually lost the frown as it spoke and took on a blank glare instead.
I turned around to look at what struck „it" silent but didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Just a bustling city, a great blue sky and the shining Sun's blinding light. Looking back at the flower, it had an even more confused expression written on its... face, I suppose.
"But that's impossible! The Sun? There is no Sun in the Underground! Have I... Did we... make it to the surface?"
I don't understand what it's talking about at all. I've always been on the surface, from the moment I was born.
"What's your name? And how do you know mine, anyway?" I tried again.
"Huh?" It looked at me curiously. "Do you seriously not remember?" There was also a hint of concern in his voice.
"Sigh... Well, I'm glad you asked! I'm Flowey. Flowey the flower! And I ain't an 'it' pal. I'm a 'he' just so you know. And I will help you on your journey! (I guess?)" He said that last part to himself.
A sassy talking flower that's apparently a 'he'... wait, can it... can Flowey read my mind?
"Golly! What a weird situation we're both in! But you must be here for a reason, right? Maybe we can find the answers we seek in that big ol' building!"
"Actually, now that I look at it... It's strange. Reminds me a little bit of... Well, nevermind. Let's go, Clover!" He disappears into the ground after saying that. I suppose he's waiting for me inside.
Flowey seems friendly enough. And we are in this situation together now. It is a high school, but he's right. If I'm here, it must be for a good reason. There is nowhere to go but forward.
