The next morning, Jake and Matt had arrived at I-Island Academy. It was Jake's first day and he was feeling rather nervous at the sight of the large school building.
"You look nervous." Matt said, looking at Jake. "Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Jake said. "I, uh. . . I'm just a little shook from the fight with Vortex last night."
"Hey, don't worry about it." Matt said. "Vortex only attacks when he finds it convenient and necessary. . . or so I've come to figure out."
"I hope that's true." Jake said. "Cause I never want to get roped up in another fight with him again."
"Hey, Jake! You've made it!" A familiar feminine voice called to him.
Jake looked over to see Melissa running up to him. And alongside her, was another young woman with short brown hair, amber yellow eyes, and was wearing a dark blue cropped shirt, blue jeans, and white shoes.
"Hey, Melissa." Jake said, waving to her. "Who's your friend there?"
"Oh, this is my lab partner, Marianne." Melissa said, introducing the girl next to her. "Mari, this is Jake. This is his first day."
"Ah, hello!" Marianne said with a smile as she took Jake's hand and shook it. "It's so nice to meet you. As Mel said, I'm Marianne. But you can call me Mari for short."
"Hi. . . it's nice to meet you too." Jake said. "I look forward to being here."
"Mel has told me so much about you already!" Marianne said with a smile. "She even told me about your quirk. I'm surprised your not taking one of our hero courses."
"It's not a. . . actually, nevermind." Jake said.
"You're so lucky to have such a crazy ability." Marianne said. "I was unfortunate enough to be born quirkless. Mainly because my parents were also, but still."
"Well, aren't you happy-go-lucky." Matt said, rolling his eyes.
"Sorry, I tend to get over-excited when I meet new people." Marianne said, letting go of Jake's hand. "I mean. . . who doesn't, right?"
"Yeah. . ." Jake said.
"Anyway, how about a tour of the school?" Melissa asked. "I'm sure you want to know where things are around here, right?"
"That would be nice, yes." Jake said.
With that said, the four of them were walking around the school as Melissa gave Jake a tour of the campus.
After about an hour, the tour was over.
"So. . . that's our school." Melissa said. "What do you think?"
"It's a pretty nice campus." Jake said. "I can see myself really enjoying my days here."
"That's great news!" Marianne said with a smile. "I hope we can get along well in the long run."
"Yeah, cause that would be cool." Matt said, rolling his eyes.
"Also, I thought ahead and got you your schedule." Melissa said, handing a slip of paper to Jake.
"Oh, thanks." Jake said, taking the slip of paper and looking at the schedule.
"I also made some recommendations for classes that you can be in." Melissa said. "Mainly because I want us to be in at least one of the same classes."
"Awww, that's so cute!" Marianne said.
"I-It's nothing." Melissa said, blushing. "I just thought it would be nice of Jake had a class with someone he knew, you know?"
