Tachihara's a hunting dog.
He'd been one ever since he was a teen that had cracked a safe into the government's secrets. While he was still fixated on the chaos of his thoughts, they had caught him fiddling with the lock. A deal was offered. Become a hunting dog, or an unfortunate accident.
It wasn't really that bad. There still were benefits from taking up the job. Being a hunting dog meant power. Control. Independence from the all too suffocating expectations and experiences of his family after his death.
He climbs up the ranks and stands on the side of righteousness, like his brother once did. They teach him how to use his ability better, to hunt down criminals to the very end. For justice. The saber on his hip becomes a familiar weight, like the one he's always had on his heart.
The grief and rage from his brother's death should have dissipated slowly with time, but those feelings still lingered in his chest, a harsh reminder of his supposed "incompetence" of ever living up to the dead's standards.
One day, Teruko breaks the news.
"Sakaguchi Ango's been discovered as our mole."
Her lips were curled in annoyance. Infiltrating the mafia was never an easy task, and it never would be. The fact that their ex-mole was still alive was a miracle in itself. To plant another mole to monitor Mori Ougai would be an extremely risky task.
Mori Ougai, huh?
An ex-military doctor. He knew of his connections to the war, and the deceased. Plus his relationship with another extraordinary healer, the angel of death.
Tachihara isn't quite as surprised at himself as he should be when he volunteers for the role.
He knows it is a completely irrational decision, driven by his feelings. Jouno seems to know it too, being the only one frowning slightly at his direction. The man however, doesn't speak a word. The rest of them think about it and agree. A hunting dog of his calibre should be fine, after all.
They send him off with well wishes and caution.
