Sneaking out the window of my own bedroom after I'd waited for my parents to fall asleep was something I'd never imagine myself doing but there I was, like a thief in the night.Marty already agreed to pick me up with his mom's van since I couldn't drive yet, he would never pass on the opportunity to flaunt his driving ability, calling me stupid names like a 'pavement licker' or a 'wheeless one'.
I jumped down from the roof, being sure the window was closed behind me and ran off to the corner. Marty wasn't there but I took a moment to admire how ethereal the neighborhood looked at night. The distant sound of dogs barking in unison with the creek of the crickets really sold the image of how late it was. Together with that misty feeling in my lungs when I took a deep breath and that moisture on my skin, it made me feel alive.
The squeak of a car's brakes pulled me out of my trance and fixed my attention to Marty's chariot. It was your average soccer mom car used to get from A to B. It wasn't exactly a Maybach but at least we'd get where we apparently need to be going.
"Get in dude." He said reaching over to open the door. I stepped in and dapped him up and immediately noticed something. He smelt nice, not just nice, amazing even. I sniffed the air around him, sniffing him down like some sort of bloodhound."Wow you bathed for a change" I joked. I'd lobotomize myself with a rusty pitchfork before I would ever compliment this Neanderthal. He's my best friend and I'd kill for him if it meant he even got a chance at living but acknowledging his good looking features is where I'd cross the line. He isn't exactly Mr Universe but if I was girl, I'd struggle to stay focused around him because he is pretty attractive. That's one more thing we have in common.
"Har har, very funny Sam" He said in the most sarcastic tone. "I know right?" I immediately rebutted with the same tone. He scoffed and shifted the car into drive and headed off.
I took a few more seconds to take in that ethereal feeling from earlier and it brought my attention to another feeling. That haziness in my head. It hasn't really fully left my head since I saw that thing in the office, I wasn't even sure I actually saw it until I looked at Marty in that office and he had that same dazed, confused look in his eyes telling me 'You felt that too right?'. It then suddenly hit me that I actually never talked to him about him about it, even after we walked drove home together earlier. As I was about to open my mouth to ask, Marty switched the radio on and it was already on a Stavaras match commentary.
"Ah dude, I think Shrivel and Ridge are fighting. This fight'll be preem" He said cutting me off before I could get a word out. "Oh yeah definitely" I mindlessly replied.
...What? What was I just thinking? The last few seconds of my mind were just a blur. A blur would be an understatement because you can still get a vague picture from something blurry. A rip would be a better way to describe it. I don't even know if I could call it a rip because I'm not completely sure there was anything there to actually rip out. My body started laughing at something Marty said and I didn't even hear it. My body did though.....Ah that's right, Marty joked about how Shrivel would lose. My body must be just used to laughing at his jokes. Strange though.
We talked on about underrated stands in Stavaras and which stands could be practical in real life. After what seemed like an hour of talking, we reached a forest line with cars parked near it and could see bright lights off in the distance which was probably the party. "Yeah I think this is the place." Marty said pulling the key out of the ignition. As I was about to open my door Marty stopped me to say something. He looked me dead in the eyes and had this gaze, like he was trying to collaborate his thoughts to say something to me."Nevermind..." He stayed silent for a bit. "Let's get fucked up dude". I smiled and fist bumped him before getting out the car and waiting for him.
