unreal, the only word that came to mind as you laid in the backseat of your parents Citroën.

"We left Paris for this?" You scoffed, disdain and disappointment evident in your tone.

Your father shot a warning glance at you as your mother tried to ease the tension.

"My love we know how hard this must be for you but please do try to keep a positive attitude" she implored, offering an empathetic smile. Annoyed and far from positive, you nodded curtly, not wanting to stress her further.

The prospect of having to start anew felt unjust—You had a life of your own, and it was in Paris.

How could they ask you to just leave that behind?

Distracting you from your thoughts, your mother exclaimed, "isn't it lovely?"

You looked up to see a quaint country home; it was lovely, but not something you were willing to  admit.

"Very french" you muttered.

Your father quickly got out of the car, yawning and stretching as he did so.

Your mother following suit, "Help your father with the boxes won't you dear?" She instructed absentmindedly, beginning to tour the home.

You obliged and began to help your father unpack the car.

The inside of the house was spacious, beautiful pieces of wallpaper adorning the intricate doorknobs and baseboards.

It was an old house that was for certain, but it was far from average.

Ascending the stairs, you found yourself inside a pink haven—The walls of the room were covered in a beautiful baby pink wallpaper, a flower pattern printed on the lower half  that paired well with the mysterious golden bed frame already in the room. Your attention however, was caught on the large picturesque window situated at the front of the room.

"We thought you'd like this room" a voice spoke up from behind you; you turned to see your father standing by the doorway an apprehensive look etched on his face.

"It's beautiful" you acknowledged.

"It's yours" your father replied quickly.

Awkward silence lingered before your father spoke again.

"Rose, I know all of this hasn't been easy for you" he began, "and I'm sorry- I"

"It's okay" you interjected, a sympathetic smile gracing your lips. "I'll try to keep my complaining to a minimum" you joked.

Your father, relieved, enveloped you in a hug before leaving without another word to continue unpacking.

You stood alone in your new room, thoughts racing.
