Monday morning rolls around, and my day starts off not-so-great. I had an awkward run-in with Miles. He stopped in to purchase a bouquet of flowers for his girlfriend.

The only reason I even knew he had a girlfriend was because Miles brought it up. I didn't know if it was his way of saying he'd moved on and he was happy, -even though he's the one who cheated- or if he panicked and just wanted to fill in the awkward silence.

I gave him a smooth, "cool," and rang up his order.

I kept my eyes focused on my hands as I tied a red ribbon around the bouquet. "Special occasion?" I asked. I didn't really care to know the answer, but I could feel Miles staring at me.

"Uh, yeah. It's her birthday today."

"Oh. Congrats."

Oh God, take me out now. This was the most awkward conversation I have ever had with an ex. Or should I even consider us exes when we hardly dated?

I wanted this conversation over, so I sort of shoved the bouquet of flowers into Miles' hands. He paid for them and turned to leave.

Only, he didn't actually leave. He turned back around, and I couldn't escape to the break room quickly enough.

"Harper."

Damn it. I slowly bring my attention to Miles. A smile is forced onto my face. My jaw hurts from smiling so hard. "Yeah?"

"I wanted to apologize again for what I did to you. You didn't deserve that."

I open my mouth to reply. I don't know what I'm going to say. He apologized then when I called him out on his cheating ass and even then, I struggled to find the right words.

Thanks?

I forgive you?

Fuck off?

I decide to go with whatever comes out of my mouth. My lips part to say the first thing that pops into my head, but then I see Landon.

He strolls over, not seeming to notice Miles as he leans in to capture my lips in a kiss. It's quick but thorough enough to be considered PDA. My cheeks heat.

Miles is staring at the both of us with wide, confused eyes.

When Landon finally notices Miles, he doesn't seem to remember him. "Oh shit. My bad. I didn't know you were with a customer."

Customer? Either Landon really doesn't remember Miles, or he's the best damn liar in the world. Either way, I bite back a smile.

Miles seems pissed by the fact that Landon doesn't seem to remember him. So much so that he feels the need to remind my boyfriend that we dated. Although it was only for a short period of time.

"I'm not a customer. Harper and I dated."

He looks even sillier now than he did before when he thought telling me about his girlfriend would make me jealous. Or regret breaking up with him. I honestly don't know what he was trying to do.

"Right," Landon stated cooly, clearly unimpressed. "Well, I suppose there's a valid reason it's past tense, huh?"

It's start to click in my head that Landon is remembering him now. I contemplate whether or not I should interfere and put an end to whatever is happening between them. After a moment, I came to the conclusion that I'm far too entertained to stop it.

Miles frowned. "Excuse me?"

"You said 'dated', which means you two are no longer together. Though it really doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that. Especially since I just kissed my girlfriend."

Miles scoffs. He starts to walk off, and I think it's over. But then, again, he stops. He pivots, eyes that used to make my insides flutter, having no power over me. If anything, I feel crickets instead of butterflies.

"I'm not surprised you chose the fuckboy frat. You always were a-"

"Finish that fucking sentence and I promise you will be picking your teeth up off the floor," Landon growls, taking a threatening step towards Miles.

His confidence wilts away like the petals of a flower. Looking at him now, I'm not sure what I even saw in him to begin with. He really does look like a sad puppy dog. And not the cute kind.

Miles swallows, fear etched onto his face. He glances at me for a moment, looking for me to say something. I remain quiet. My boyfriend's got this.

He huffs out another frustrated breath and walks all the way out of the door this time.

"Is everything okay up here?" My aunt asks, coming out of the greenhouse with freshly pruned purple orchids.

I nod, and she doesn't question me further. When she's out of earshot, I give Landon's cheek a quick, appreciative peck.

"You're kind of hot when you're all protective over me," I whisper in his ear.

His eyes darken in color. "Yeah?"

"Yeah," I reply, tugging him into the breakroom with me.

A makeout session breaks out. Lips lock. Tongues dance. And hands roam. Landon's left hand glides over my ass to squeeze it while his other hand fists my hair.

My head is tilted back to deepen the kiss, prompting a whimper of approval from me.

Realizing that if we don't stop kissing and touching on each other, that it's going to lead to something more. So I break the kiss and slip out from under him.

I create some distance between us, my palm outstretched. With a labored breath, I note the smirk on his face. "Stop looking at me like that."

"Like what, babe? I'm not doing anything wrong."

"You know exactly what you are doing with all of that," I say, emphasizing what I mean with my hand. I'd felt him against my hip. "You're supposed to be taking me out to lunch. Not trying to get a quickie in."

He slips his hands into the pockets of his jeans and shrugs. "You're the one who started it. I'm just simply finishing it."

"Later," I assure.

He does this sexy thing where he licks his lips, bites his lower lip, and nods. The entire action is done with his blue eyes raking over me in a wild, seductive manner. I nearly dropped to my knees.

"Later," he repeats lowly.

"Later," I say again. Not for his sake. But for mine.
