Encourage them to believe in themselves rather than just saying that you believe in them.
Because the truth is that they are the only ones who can help themselves, even if others are there.
I have a friend who is under stress due of his family's expectations. And because his cousins and friends are smarter than him, he feels insecure. That's why he looks down on himself and no longer recognizes his own good characteristics. So, to deal with this guy, I reminded him of the wonderful things he done for others or anything that would boost his self-esteem. Because, in my opinion, he needs to remember that he has nice characteristics; this is one of the methods for him to understand that he is more than just something, and maybe, we can be a reason for others to believe in themselves again.
