Lexie Grey and Mark Sloan had been through a lot during their time at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. They had been on and off again for years, never quite able to fully let go of each other. But they had finally found their way back to each other and were now happily married with a beautiful four-year-old daughter named Maisie.
Lexie had always wanted to have a child with Mark, and when Maisie came into their lives, they couldn't have been happier. They were the proud parents of a smart, energetic little girl who was the light of their lives.
But their happily ever after was about to be thrown off balance when April Kepner, an old friend and colleague, returned to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital after being away for some time. Lexie and April had been close friends before April left, but their friendship had fizzled out with time and distance.
When April came back, Lexie was surprised by the strong feelings that resurfaced. She found herself drawn to April in a way she couldn't explain. And as they spent more time together, their friendship rekindled quickly.
But Lexie wasn't the only one with strong feelings. April also found herself falling for Lexie and was torn about what to do. She confided in Arizona Robbins, her friend and colleague at the hospital. Arizona, who was openly lesbian, suggested that April should tell Lexie about her feelings.
So, one day, April mustered up the courage and called Lexie into the on-call room. Lexie, who was busy with Maisie, was hesitant to leave her daughter even for a moment. But when she arrived in the on-call room, she was surprised when April leaned in to kiss her.
Lexie was taken aback at first, but she couldn't deny the strong feelings she had for April. And as they kissed, they both knew that their feelings were mutual. They ended up having a passionate night together, finally giving in to their desires.
But the guilt set in when Lexie started getting Maisie ready for preschool the next morning. She knew she needed to tell Mark about what had happened, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She didn't want to break her family apart and hurt Maisie in the process.
What maisie is wearing/ what she looks like:
So, she kept the secret to herself and went to work at the hospital with a heavy heart. But as luck would have it, Mark was working at the hospital that day too. And when Lexie saw him, she knew she had to tell him the truth. She pulled him into the on-call room, where she tearfully confessed about her night with April. Mark was furious and called her a cheater, storming out of the room without giving her a chance to explain.
Lexie was left alone with tears in her eyes, feeling guilty and torn. She didn't know what to do, but she knew she had to pick Maisie up from preschool. She quickly composed herself and went to get her daughter, putting on a brave face for her sake.
But when she got home, Mark had already left and took his things with him. Lexie was heartbroken and didn't know how to face Maisie. She couldn't imagine explaining to her little girl why her father had left.
But she didn't have much time to dwell on it as she received a call from Mark. He told her he was staying at a hotel until they could figure things out. Lexie was heartbroken, but she knew she needed to accept the consequences of her actions.
She spent the night with Maisie, not wanting to burden her daughter with their family's problems. But the next day, she received a call from Mark again. He asked her to meet him at the hospital, and when she arrived, he apologized for leaving without hearing her out.
Lexie tearfully told him about her feelings for April and how she couldn't ignore them. To her surprise, Mark was understanding and even suggested that they try an open relationship for a while, so Lexie could explore her feelings for April without breaking their family apart.
Lexie was relieved and grateful, and they both agreed to give it a try. They promised to put Maisie's well-being first and make sure she didn't get hurt in the process.
And as they both worked through their feelings, they found a way to make their unconventional family work. Mark even became good friends with April, and they all co-parented Maisie together.
It wasn't a conventional family, but it was a happy one. And Lexie was grateful for Arizona's advice, which not only helped her to embrace her feelings for April but also helped her to navigate a difficult situation without losing her family.
