The sun crept through the curtains, casting a warm glow on the room. Abigail stirred, her eyes fluttering open to a new day in Luxembourg. As she stretched and yawned, the events of the previous night flooded back. She overheard Lucy talking to her friends about how pretty Abigail was. It was a revelation that left Abigail puzzled and uneasy.
Reluctantly, Abigail swung her legs over the side of the bed, glancing over at Lucy, who was still peacefully asleep. The tension in the room was palpable, and Abigail couldn't shake off the awkwardness of sharing a room with her rival.
Deciding she needed some advice, Abigail quietly slipped out of bed, careful not to wake Lucy. She headed to the common area where her friends Kiera, Leah, and Georgia were already gathered. The early morning light spilled through the windows, creating a cozy atmosphere as Abigail took a seat.
"Good morning chicks." Abi greeted her friends who were chatting away.
"Morning, Abi," Her friends replied in unison, sipping on their cups of coffee.
"Abigail Eliza Campbell, you have that look on your face that something is extremely wrong and you want to have a mental breakdown, spill it darl." Leah said very suddenly looking Abigail up and down with a concerned expression.
"What do you mean that look on my face, I am perfectly fine." Abigail tried to calm down her friend and bring the groups attention away from the crisis she was so obviously having.
"We have known each other since we were 9 in the academy. Cut the bull shit and tell us." Leah pressed even harder on the problem.
"Ok fine, no not everything is perfectly fine. Last night after you guys left I rolled over and pretended to sleep when I could hear Lucy coming down the hallway back to our room but she had Jill with her. They were talking and they stopped when they got outside the door, when she walked in and saw me 'asleep' she continued her conversation and the bitch actually said and I quote "It's not just frustration, Jill. It's more than that. She's so damn pretty, and it's distracting. I try to focus on the game, on being a team, but there's this pull. It's infuriating." Abigail ranted to her best friends who listened with wide eyes and jaws hanging so far open they could break.
Abigail recounted the conversation she overheard, leaving out the explicit details but conveying the underlying tone. Kiera, ever pragmatic, responded, "Well, that's unexpected. Maybe Lucy has a thing for you?"
Georgia chimed in with a mischievous grin, "Ooh, tension in the air! Sounds like a classic love-hate scenario. What are you going to do about it, Abi?"
Abigail blushed, feeling a mix of emotions. "I don't know. It's just so awkward. I can't confront her about it."
Leah smirked, "Why not? You two are going to be roommates for the duration of this camp. Better address the elephant in the room sooner than later."
As the day progressed, Abigail couldn't shake the feeling of Lucy's eyes on her during training. The tension between them seemed to intensify, and Abigail found herself hyper-aware of Lucy's presence. Meanwhile, Lucy continued her conversations with Jill & Demi, occasionally glancing in Abigail's direction.
