Renee was still daydreaming about Baaul by the next night as she ate her dinner in her room. She had known the moment that she saw him, that he was different than the other one. The way he carried himself was smoothe and elegant. Like a tiger. He also was adorned in that metal armor. It was the difference between a decorated combat veteran and a random hick with a gun. There was absolutely no comparing the two, not that Baaul would likely appreciate it anyway.

As she stood there in front of him, having only the moon's glow she could tell that his body was like the other male in consistency only. Their skin was reptilian-like, covered in scales and spines, though that handshake proved they were warm-blooded as surely as she was. And goodness was his skin shockingly soft! Though it had been hard to tell in the dark, she thought he was a coloration of green and maybe cream.

He was so...big, too. She was small on average, but Baaul was definitely over seven feet tall, though he seemed so much larger! His thick arms buldged with earned muscle and he was so broad that she knew he would not be able to fit through her door. When she wasn't ready to piss herself thinking he was going to kill or or eat her, she was able to marvel at his sheer beauty. Baaul was...oh, fuck, he was gorgeous.

She hoped to see him again-wanted to see him again. She wanted to ask him to take off that metal mask so she could see his face. Though she knew it would resemble the other one, she had a feeling that she could get lost at staring at him.

It occurred to her as she shoveled a tree of broccoli into her mouth that she was attracted to him. Attracted to him in a way that was not natural. Nevermind, that he was an entirely different species, but the mere fact that he had said only a handful of words to her and she was beyond smitten with the idea of being next to him. What the hell was wrong with her?

The phone beside her rang and she answered it to stop the shrill sound of it. "Hi, Steve."

"Am I the only one who calls you?" He asked amused.

"Yep. Lucky me." She balanced the phone on her shoulder as she got up to go sit at the little desk next to the bathroom door so she could eat and have him on speaker.

"How's it going?"

Renee found herself annoyed with the question. He truly was treating this like a vacation. "I'm in a prison that you sent me to. You should know."

"Rough day, huh?" He deflected and made a sighing sound. No doubt stretching in his chair at the station. She could almost see it.

"You could say that. Talking about my feelings isn't exactly my best quality."

Steve laughed and said, "Yeah it makes you real bitchy."

She laughed too. She couldn't help it. Talking about herself made her uncomfortable. And when she was uncomfortable, she got angry. When she got angry, she lashed. It was just how she was.

"Whatever, cowboy. I'm still here. I even managed to not piss off Marianne today." Of course, the reason was due to her mind being occupied with a certain alien, but she wasn't going to share that with anyone.

"Wow. That is an improvement. I'm proud of you. Next thing you know, you'll be working nine to five."

Renee scoffed and let him hear the disgust. "Fat chance of that."

"Eh, you never know what the future holds."

She thought of Baaul and sat back in her chair. "Yeah. You might be right about that."

"So have you made any friends?"

Renee actually laughed and said, "I think so." Not that he would approve of her new friend.

"That's good! I worried that I was your only friend."

"You? A friend? Pfft." She was using a joking tone, but she realized that she didn't really consider him a friend. He had too many moral hangups to truly be her friend.

"Have you eaten? You're being awfully cranky."

"I'm eating now, thank you very much. I just remember that the reason I'm here is because of you. Some friend." She scooped up the last of her rice onto her fork and shoveled it into her mouth. There was a soft knock on the door and she knew it was the wait staff looking to collect her dishes.

"Friends don't enable friends, Renee." He said as she shoveled the rest of her chicken into her mouth. They would take her food whether she finished or not and she had been daydreaming too much to concentrate on her food.

"I exposed a pedophile who happened to be a powerful member of our government, Steve. This isn't like not having the courage to tell your friend to stop drinking because they 'haven't killed anyone' yet. If I had exposed some random Joe that lived on your street, would you still have the same fucking thing to say to me?" Renee was pissed now. She couldn't help it. She hadn't done anything wrong, damn it! Everyone should be held accountable for their actions! Especially those in power who were meant to be an example or voice for the common people for fucks sake!

Steve was quiet on the other end, until he finally sighed and said, "No. I guess, I wouldn't, but you still broke the law to do it, Renee."

Renee slammed her fist on the table, startling the man who reached for her dinner tray, but she didn't care. "AND SO DID HE WHEN HE RAPED THAT LITTLE GIRL AND HAD THOUSANDS OF CHILD PORN DOWNLOADED ONTO HIS COMPUTER, STEVE! WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU DEFENDING HIM?"

"I'm not defending-" He started to say, his own anger starting to show.

"YES, YOU ARE! HE IS A PREDATOR THAT NEEDED MUZZLING! SO I DID IT TO SAVE THE LIVES OF FUTURE VICTIMS!"

"THAT WASN'T YOUR JOB TO DO RENEE!"

"WELL THE PEOPLE WHO'S JOB IT IS, FAILED AND I DIDN'T! WHO THE FUCK CARES WHO GOT THE JOB DONE AS LONG AS THAT SICK SON OF A BITCH IS IN JAIL?" Renee didn't remember standing. She was so angry at her situation. Angry at Steve for selling her out and being so rigid in his justice that he did more harm than good. Angry at herself for getting caught. Angry at their fucked up judicial system. Just so damn angry!

Steve was quiet for a few more moments, no doubt trying to give them both time to calm down. Finally, he said, "I think I'm going to call it a night, Renee. I hope you sleep well and I'll talk to you later."

"Fuck you, Steve." Renee spat at him and hung up before he could say anything else to piss her off. By then, the man had fled her room, securely locking her inside her room. Which was probably a good thing, because she chucked the cordless phone against the glass wall, feeling satisfied when the phone shattered into several pieces.
