No-one really asked me; what I desired; they simply handed me a brief-case and told me to find my way. But I never had any real desire to walk in their foot-steps; they were large and imposing and no-one could measure up to the legacy that they had already forged; I had to find my own way to the summit; and that is when I found her.
She was nothing when I found her; but I saw real potential. I fell for her. She had an endearing charm; and that is when the trouble started
I first saw the cracks in the relationship; when I saw the ring on her finger
"Why did you not tell me about the marriage"
she laughed it away
"It was hardly a marriage; I was engaged to the guy for three years, and then I found out he cheated on me."
"But you kept the ring on your finger"
"I couldn't part with it"
I didn't have any desire to argue with her; because I knew what the result would be, her telling me that I was over-reacting and that it was nothing and me sleeping on the couch; curled up with the blankets stretched over my body.

"I don't really know what to say; I thought once I got here I would have something profound to share with you; but I have nothing to say, I guess every mourner before me has said it all. All I can say is that I hope you finally find a bit of peace in knowing that someone is still fighting your battles
And whatever the result; I hope that you are proud of me"
I placed the flowers down at her head-stone; and walked silently away
