The cold wind blew the curtains around upon the arrival of the chilly days. A soul so innocent stood beside the small window, analyzing her neighbor's garden outside. Her mind burned with abundant notions while her eyes perceived hollowness as the kids ran around and the parents smiled.
The small house they lived in provided quite the warmth while her cramped room with a single bed was something she was accustomed to.
"Vera!" She turned around when her small bedroom door burst open and there stood her younger sister.
"Mat' is calling you for a while, why are you not responding?" Her question caused Vera to sigh and give her sister a small smile.
"Sorry Anya, I'll be there," Responding quietly with a deceptive smile as the younger one eyed the girl but left without questioning her.
Slipping on her coat and her shoes, she left her room and approached her parents.
"Come in." A voice called out upon knocking on the door as Vera stepped inside, greeting her parents.
"Evening, mat' otets, how are you?" She sat down near her parent's bed as both of them seemed tense and anxious.
"We are okay," Her father's cold reply was something usual as her mother, Aniqa, cleared her throat and smiled at her daughter which she reciprocated.
Aniqa seemed much more uneasy than her father as he was someone whom they both didn't say no to, ever.
"Vera, prekrasnyy, m-me, and your father decided to marry you off. Your father knows the man's father and you'll sign the papers soon." Vera's eyes widened upon her mother's sentence who didn't make eye contact with her. Her mouth went dry as her heart palpitated inside her chest.
"But mat'-"
"Didn't you hear her? We didn't ask for your opinion. We want you to know, the papers will be signed and you'll leave the house tomorrow," Her father's frigid tone caused her to keep her mouth shut like she always did.
"Sorry," She apologized quietly, moving her eyes downwards as her father let out a sigh, glancing at her mother.
This was something routine-wise for her at this point, her mind created different scenarios inside her which mostly would be true.
"Go with her and pack your bags." He said as he was working on his computer. "Anya!"
Footsteps came running towards the parent's bedroom. "Yes, otets?" Anya questioned as she entered inside.
"Your sister will be leaving tomorrow. I want you and your mother to get her ready and I don't want any problems." He ordered as Anya nodded. "Is that understood?"
"Yes, otets. I will help her." She didn't question him any further as both the sisters left the room after they were done.
Reaching inside the room, Vera broke down into tears as Anya closed the door in a panic.
"I'm so sorry Vera. Please don't cry. We'll find a way out or something," Her sister's words didn't register in her brain as she slid down her bedside and held her head.
"There isn't," She sobbed as she smiled painfully. "Has he ever listened to me before? He has never. He's done everything for himself."
"But you can't give up! Where is the enthusiastic and cheery Vera who tells other people to keep faith?" Vera gave her sister a painful grin and wiped her tears.
"You're right. I can't give up." Anya breathed a sigh of relief at her sister's response and began planning a runaway.
"So that's why I'll marry whoever he wants me to so he'll see I'm not giving up that easily," Vera's hollow expressive sentences made Anya stare at her in disbelief.
"What?"
"That's right. I'm going to show the bastard that even if he's marrying me off, it won't bother me. No matter how much it breaks me, I won't let him see it."

Vera was sitting in a spacious salon while she was getting ready to leave. It had been a day since her mother bought her a stunning dress that matched perfectly with a pair of gorgeous shoes. There was an eerie silence as Anya and her mother escorted her to the man she was supposed to marry.
Sitting in their living room, her father conversed with another man as Vera's eyes were directed toward the floors. She hadn't seen his sinister essence yet which was as a matter of fact something she didn't want to do.
He will be the same. All of them are the same. No man is different. He'll be the same as Dad, he would take advantage of the fact that a man has plainly sold his daughter to him, to someone so dangerous and vile-
"Mr. Kiselev, this is my eldest daughter, Vera." Her father's mocking timbre let her out of her pensive orb as she finally glanced up, expecting a ghastly figure in his fifties but her pupils dilated instead.
The man seated across from her exuded confidence and charm. He was impeccably dressed in a black and white suit with a maroon tie, and his intense gray eyes met hers with unwavering assurance. It was clear that he knew exactly what he wanted, and was not afraid to go after it.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you," She greeted the man in a timid tone who kept observing her for a few minutes, as if he felt the need to protect her but then just nodded. Rude, he didn't even reply. I mean what can I even expect? She thought to herself and looked away from the dashing male.
"Okay, now Vera you need to sign these papers."
