Chapter 2 Part 5 A day like a thousand years

While eating, I realized, the person sitting next to me right now might have a brilliant mind. Could she be as good as me? Could she even be better than me?

At least I knew who my competition would be for next year. She looked at me while eating, not saying a word. No wonder I could not define her while looking for her.

How do you define magic?

I got to admit she is way out of my league, now that I am staring at her for the first time.

She is the wind and I am a tree rooted, but she is blowing me all over the place. I had offered to walk her home; she agreed. We left school like we were best friends. I guess food is an unexplainable part of life. It felt like a dinner date was over and we both had a good time.

I learned here that sometimes you do not need to kiss someone in private. Walking next to her in public was like a million kisses. Everyone was looking at her, which meant I was getting noticed as well.

"Thank you for walking me home," Shareen said.

"The pleasure is mine. Please do not disappear again," I said silently.

The sun was still shining, probably the usual time a school day ends I would assume. The walk back home alone was a beach walk, a paradise stroll, a victory walk. My life had finally come together in just one day. Greeting everyone, I pass with a big smile. I felt like a hero returning from one great adventure. Finally understood the meaning a day can be like a thousand years.

Eating too much made me trudge. I was almost home and as I turned the corner to where I stayed, saw my grandmother sweeping her garden. She exclaimed as I entered the gate.

"I heard what happened at the award ceremony today. I am proud of you," Grandma said.

"Thank you, Grandma, I did not expect it to go that way though," I said.

"There will come a time when you will," she uttered.

She gave me a big hug after those words that stuck in my head like a melody. All my cousins came running out and joined to make a big group hug.

I just stood there to let it all in, making a mental note of this moment for my future. Should I ever incur a loss in the future, I will require this moment.

I could never get myself to cry, but I could conjure up the right emotions for a big smile.

It felt good to be an inspiration to all of them. We celebrated the rest of the day by dancing and singing. They always tried to mimic me, which was hilarious. Every second with them was amazing.

The time had come for some of their parents to come fetch them always around 6 o'clock. It was like a kindergarten, but some toys never left. A zoo and the most dangerous animals could never go for a walk. As soon as they leave, the house becomes quiet, like a first night in jail.

The silence was a worthy adversary only a few could master. Sitting here and reminiscing about the events of today made me appreciate my journey. It was the key to survival. I was feeling sleepy and had to go take a bath before dinner.

Something was brewing in the kitchen. The nose tells no lies, yet it is so close to the mouth. I was an odd one. I could distinguish the nose from the mouth by using them in everyday scenarios. There I go talking to myself again, when I should be in the bath.

Just what I needed, a warm bath. It was also my secret for many things. After studying for long hours I can always recall the information when lying here or even advise myself on certain aspects of my life. Just as I got out of the bath, I heard my grandma's voice from the kitchen.

Finally dinnertime. I put on lotion and dressed quickly before my food gets cold. I rushed to the kitchen. My favorite meal!

Pepper steak pie!

My grandma has been standing there the whole time looking at me, looking at the food.

I thanked her. It has been a while since I had this. To my favorite spot in the living room, where I enjoy all my meals.

The first bite just sends me into another world, but this world ain't so bad today. If I had a diary, I would write only this day in there.

It was a day of hearing your name being called, but only to receive good things. Made me curious, what does a human have to do to be treated like this forever?

After eating a mouth-watering dish, I headed back to the kitchen to wash the dishes and get in bed afterward. Feels like I am sleepwalking.

I prepared myself for bed to wrestle my mind with questions about what transpired today. My first thought was when I finally laid my head on the pillow.

Shareen Boughan beat me today!

This is day 1 of knowing her.
