Madelyn

A nauseating feeling overcomes me as I look up the skyscraper in front of me. It's monstrous. It looks cold and honestly..a little intimidating. Not that I'm nervous or anything. I deserve to be here.

Half of the the building is fading away in the New York morning fog while people scatter around the streets to get to their destination. Not even noticing this nightmare of a building.

If I had to guess the exterior is mostly made out of steel and glass. Not very unique I think to myself. Just like any other modern firm here.

I give myself a mental kick in the butt and start walking towards the entry doors.
Four men in security guard jackets stand in front of them and I greet them with a smile. I always try to be as nice as possible, you never know who might be able to help you out later on. Maybe it is an egotistical thing to say but you know a girl has to survive somehow.

I push through the glass doors and step into the foyer. It's bright, the interior kept in black and white. This feels more like a hotel lobby than my new workplace. A seating area to my right and a large receptionist desk fitting three people to my left. It's mostly empty right now.
No wonder, I'm thirty minutes early. My shift begins at 7 am but I wanted to have some time to get settled first.

Right in the middle of the foyer are the elevators I need to get to the top floor. There's absolutely zero chance that I'm gonna walk up. Four flights of stairs are usually enough to get me winded up. Can't imagine what would happen if I tried to reach floor 35 like that. Perfect recipe for lung and heart failure on my part probably.

Stepping out of it I look around to find my office. Yes, MY office! How exiting is that? This job had many applicants, working in the position I work In now was a goal for many. It's overly well-paid and could possibly open new doors for the future.

For some it could've been an additional plus point that the boss is Hunter Darlington. He's apparently unbelievably handsome, successful and single..oh and he's filthy rich. I couldn't care less. Not because "I'm different than others" but because I'm not gonna swoon for him just out of pure spite towards the male population.

When I sent my application I didn't really think about it twice. Of course they're gonna want me there. I'm highly motivated and good at what I do. I also might've lied to them about my experience. But I guess they didn't check. Good for me. Luck is on my side as always.

Even the walls to my office are made out of glass. Does it actually count as a wall if it's made like that? Well, who cares. I step in and take in the breathtaking view from the windows. Someone who's name shall not be named really went and got the best office on the floor. I'd do the same if I was in his position.

His office is basically my office. The only thing separating us is another glass wall. Who would've thought. Glass.

I settle behind my desk and start to get comfy. They've mailed me my basic to do list yesterday to make my first days here a little easier. So I start clicking away.

A little later the door snaps opens so suddenly it makes me jump a little. In walks my new favourite enemy. And oh. Oh no. He is unbelievably attractive. The people who said that his appearance is a bonus were right.

His black suit hugs his body perfectly giving some hints of a trained and muscly body underneath. He is tall, not absurdly tall but enough to have me look up at him. A jawline that has me jealous, eyes that stare right into your soul with lashes that every woman dreams of. Why is it always men that are blessed with these features while we stride to have them?

I take a few steps towards him and hold out my hand.
"Good morning, Sir. My name is Madelyn Foster and I am your new personal assistant. I am looking forward to work with you." A smile plastered on my face I wait.

Seconds pass, he gives me slow once over down my body, his jaw clenching.

It's so awkward for me, I can't breathe. How long am I supposed to offer my hand? Is he gonna answer?
Instead he just continues to walk to his side of the office. Opening the door he simply says "Forward the important
e-mails asap."

Well now I feel insulted. First of all my outfit is definitely worth more than a once over and additionally I am more worth than a barked command. Rude.

The rest of the morning goes by pretty quickly. At one point I turned on the radio which makes the silence only kind of bearable. I feel like people don't even chatter in the hallway, at least I can't seem to see someone doing it. The other employees simply whisper to each other before taking off in different directions.

At 11 am I decide to go to him and consult him on the meetings I've planned out for the following days. So I take a deep breath and enter his room. He doesn't even look up at me. Focused on his computer screen he takes absolutely no notice of me.

„Mr Darlington I've arranged some meetings for you and wanted to get your approval for them."

He gives my calendar a glance before focusing on his work again.
"Mrs Foster if you need approval for every single action you take, you'll need to get another job. Leave my office. And knock next time."

I stare at him in disbelief. The fucking audacity to treat me like that. How dare him.

"Didn't you hear what I said?" He asks annoyed. Okay, have it your way.

"I did but I chose to ignore it. Didn't even want your approval for that."

He stops typing, leans back in his chair and looks at me with a glare while gripping his armrest tightly.

Before he can respond I grab my calendar and grumpily leave.

Take that Mr Asshole.
