elevator chatting and midnight talking

chuuya had recently started boarding school after kouyou offered it to him. he had always faced everything head on, but this time, all the maps and people around was a little more then he was most used to.

everyone was scrambling to their new dorms, a mix of nervousness and excitement filling the air.

the elevator let out a small ding! and opened its doors, revealing a large metal cage with some handles.

a kid was already in there, a little tall, with his right eye and his arms covered in bandages. it was a depressing sight to say the least, with dingy brown hair dangling in the middle of where his eyebrows met.

chuuya slowly entered.  the kid towered over him, but not saying a word with his hands in his pockets and bad posture.

"what floor?"

the guy flinched at the sudden voice, like he hadn't realized he was even in the elevator.

"oh, uh..."

he quickly pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and scanned it slowly, drinking in every detail it had to offer, the cleared his throat.

"erm, floor 3."

"oh, me too. what room?"

chuuya looked over at him, raising a eyebrow slowly, being extremely expressive.

"i'm room 2."

he was pleasantly surprised, as it was quite the unconventional way of meeting his new roommate, but brushed it off.

"oh, me too. i guess your my roommate now."

the kids eyes widened at hearing the news, then smiled, raised a hand up to his lips, and let out a small chuckle, probably at the unconventionality of the situation..

"hmm, ok then... my name is dazai, what's yours?"

"oh, i'm chuuya. nice to meet you."

before he could even finish his sentence, the elevator let out another small ding! noise and opened its door again, revealing beige wallpaper and a hall leading to their new room.

"were here, come on."

they both walked out, chuuya crossing his arms and dazai slumped over with his arms in his pockets once more. they walked next side by side, and the sound from earlier had completely drowned out, only leaving the sound of each other's solemn footsteps to fill the silence of the halls.

the door let out a loud click when they opened it, showing more beige walls, but this time, with a couch and small kitchenette built into the wall. it looked like every other boring room in this hellhole, as chuuya would call it.

dazai looked around as if he found the place quite cozy, his attire fitting in perfectly. he was wearing a white button up shirt and baggy-ish black slacks with a black hoodie tied around his waist. chuuya wore a green leather jacket and his signature hat, with a graphic tee and skinny jeans.

chuuya walked over to one of the doors on the side of the living space just to reveal more and more beige by the second. a cold gush of air hit them both like a mallet- it almost knocked chuuya off his feet.

dazai quickly ran over to the couch and slammed onto it, sprawling his whole body across it. chuuya just stared nonchalantly.

"oi, are you tired or something?!"

"ugh, yeah. so go explore or whatever, i don't care which room i get so just get the one you want."

chuuya pumped his fists in the air in an apparent victory, then ran over to the far right room.

the room was painted blue, almost the same color as his eyes, with a small wire frame bed and a desk. chuuya felt like it fit him well.

dazai was dreaming away- probably about something random, but he was smiling widely and snoring softly, holding onto a pillow tightly.

a few days later...!

it was almost 12:00, and dazai was regretting taking that nap... he was on the edge of the roof on the tall building, sitting on a small blanket and looking at the stars softly, with the sides of his mouth curling into a smile. the reflection of the sky made his lifeless eyes glitter softly, almost like he was entranced.

clunk, clunk, clunk...

 "o-oh, hey chibi."

"you shouldn't have taken that nap..."

chuuya walked over to him, wearing baggy pajama pants and a tanktop with ruffled hair.

blush creeped onto dazais cheeks when he realized how comfortable chuuya was around him now, aside from how it used to be.

chuuya sat down next to him, looking at the stars as well, smiling softly with a gentle expression.

"wow, the moon looks beautiful tonight, doesn't it chuuya?"

he nodded softly to answer the question before realization struck, his eyes widening as he smiles wider and wider.

"i love you too."
