I was walking down the sidewalk to my friend's place for a party on a Friday night. I walk with my friend, Hilda, she's been my best friend since kindergarten. We do everything together.
This is the first party I've been to in a while. I'm kind of excited. It a little warm out, so I'm wearing a pink tank top and a denim skirt. Hilda wears an outfit similar to mine but with a green shirt.
We stopped at the front gate at my friend's house.
And an eerie feeling washed over me. Like, we were being watched. I look around to see if I am, but no one is in sight. I take a deep breath and turn to Hilda. She looks at me and puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Everything okay?" She asks sincerely.
I nod in a calming way, and we enter the house.
Music filled my ears, and people were singing loudly. But the feeling I had before was still there. I look for my group of friends and head to them.

Hours at the party pass, and everyone is leaving.
Hilda and I start out the door, waving to our friends. I forgot about what happened earlier.  We stepped on the sidewalk and were startled by a loud BANG!  Hilda fell down, and I could see blood flowing on the cement. I started screaming at the tip of my lungs, and people were coming out of their houses to see what was going on. I couldn't talk, so I just stood there, pointing and screaming Hilda's name. People started dialing on the phones and running out to me. Somewhere in the distance, I heard a loud click. I couldn't process it with Hilda lying there, presumably lifeless.
All of a sudden, I heard a machine gun. Bullets started flying in a loud spray. I ducked and covered my head. People started running wild, screaming at the top of their lungs, heading for shelter but dropping like flies.
I felt a quick pain and sting in my back, I've been shot.
I feel another one in my  arm and decide to make a run for protection.
I make it three steps on my friend's yard and get hit again.

All I see is black, then white, then black, then red. I hear sirens in the distance and people shouting. I still hear the bullets. Suddenly,  someone puts a finger to my artery, feeling for a pulse. I can't open my eyes to see who it is.

I wake up, disoriented. Am I... in a hospital?

A man in a white coat walking in confirms my guess. I'm too tired to talk, but I can see tunes and cords hooked to me. The doctor looks at me, and his eyes widen in fear or surprise. He calls for someone, but I can't hear it. It's all muggy.
Moments later, my parents came in, crying and touching my face. They hugged me gently.
My sister came in after them, saying things I still couldn't hear.
They hugged me after my parents backed off.
My hearing came back a little. I heard the doctor say I was in stable condition. And them I heard my parents start relaxing.

Days later, I was finally able to go home. I was free from the hospital. As my parents signed the discharge papers, they walked me out of the front doors.
About halfway to the car and... bang!
