-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The soft glow from my phone illuminated my tired face in the late hours of the night. I look to the top corner of the screen. Two a.m., it read. A sigh escaped my lips, "I should really be heading to bed soon. I got school in the morning anyways." I thought at I clicked my phone off and put it on my nightstand to charge. I swiftly rolled over to face the wall of my room. Any noises usually stop me from sleeping a wink. So, when a soft, "Thud Thud Thud" ring out in the quiet of my room, I gave up on any chance of slumber.

"It's open." I call out to the person I knew all too well waiting for my signal, "Hey Y/N. It's not too late, is it?" He spoke. I turn back to the way I was facing just moments ago, "Well, it is two a.m. on a school night so what do you think?" I sarcastically quip to the unmasked teen in front of me. Miles Morales, my best friend since the beginning of fourth grade, stood sheepish in front of me with his mask gripped in one hand. His spray-painted Spiderman suit was torn slightly on his left arm from what I assumed was another attack from a villain. He wasn't bleeding in which he needed stitches, but it was still a wound that needed tending to.

"Another of your 'Villains of the week?'" I asked as I drag myself out of bed and to the bathroom down the hall. I was grabbing the medical kit when I heard him shout back, "Yeah, just another one of those." He sat on my bed, and I sat with him, "He really did a number on you huh?" I opened my med-kit and pulled out everything I needed. Rubbing alcohol, cotton balls, and band aids. "Really Y/N," He complained, "why do I have to wear those Hello Kitty band aids? You don't have the regular beige ones?" I grab his arm and scoot closer to him. I put alcohol to cotton and cotton to skin, ignoring his complaining, "You woke me up at two a.m.," I start, "on a school night for my help because you don't know how to clean yourself up after your fights." I rub away the dried blood on his arm, "And you're complaining about some Hello Kitty band aids?" I stare at him like he had three heads, "I'm the one who's gonna be wearing them!" He tried to defend himself, "Miles, you're lucky they still had band aids at the store. You wanna stop wearing them, stop fighting villains stronger than you!" I flick the temple of his forehead, "Get some backup or something."

"Dang, so rude and for what?" He rubbed the injured area back and forth with the unoccupied hand, "For the two years you've know that I'm Spiderman, you always tell me to get backup to stop me from getting hurt as much." I finish with the cleaning and take out a brand-new Hello Kitty band aid. I stick it on the cut, "But do you see any other superheroes swinging around besides me?" He asked, raising an eyebrow to me, "Still doesn't take away from the face I still have to get up late in the night to help you." I poke his nose before cupping his face in my hands, "They didn't hurt you anywhere else, did they?" I inquire, rotating his face side to side, "Aw, you care about me." He sticked his tongue out at my playfully, "Of course I do dumbass. You're my best friend." I wrap my arms around his lanky frame, "And you're the best friend a spider person could ask for." His arms wrapped around me in a swift motion.

We stayed like that for a while, enjoying each other's embrace. It was so comforting being in the arms of Miles. Although his hands were cold, our body heat mixed together made his suit like a warm jacket. It must have felt so nice that I fell asleep because the next thing I remember was my alarm blaring in my ears signaling my body to get a move on. I switched off the alarm and looked at the time via my lock screen. 7:30 a.m., it read. I was about to go shower when a notification from last night caught my eye. It was from Miles, "Hey you fell asleep on me last night and I just laid you down in your bed. See you at school :]" I laughed at the little symbol he typed at the end. Same old Miles. Same old happy, kind, loveable Miles.
