Chapter 21 - Raul

we are currently in Thomas' office. he is going though some files while i watch in silence and with absolutely no expression on my face. i have not let myself show him any expression that might raise his suspicions since that day. 

so i speak little. look like a robot. eat with him and wear clothes bought by his money.

keep it professional.

A single knock and Ben enters the room. he looks shaken.

"Sir, our men in the Street Derulo were attacked." he tells him. "Six bodies. We found a note, sir." he extends his hand, holding a paper.

As thomas takes it, ben continues, "Three of our men were injured in the assault. i had them transferred. but i don't think they can make it through."

thomas reads whatever was written in the paper, his expression going ravenous. 

he crumples the paper and throws it backwards. "Where are they?" he shouts at ben, sounding like he might kill someone right now.

"In the hall, sir." ben replies.

two minutes later, we are in the main hall where two people are standing beside three people sitting on the chairs, looking like they have just carried them in.

ben, thomas and me, behind them both.

the persons sitting are barely conscious. Battered and bruised. Blood drips from their head and body and even the floor is stained.

as i gaze at the bruised people, i think i see someone familiar. i look closely, squinting.

when i recognize, my knees buckle and i almost fall to the ground.

"Raul," his name escapes my mouth before i run towards my unconscious brother.

he doesn't respond. his eyes are half closed, face bruised and he's panting.

"Raul," i say, touching his cheeks as tears roll down my own. "You're going to be okay."

ben and thomas are immediately behind me. ben shouting to someone Grab a doctor and the person spoken to shouts back He's on his way.

maybe they are not shouting but their voices fumble in my mind. i feel a hand on my shoulder. my lips quiver. 

Raul eyes roll back in his head and he goes numb.
