**Prologue**

The school bell rings and everyone jumps out of their seats. They rush to tell their friends bye, because it's the last day.

" Allie, hey! " I call to my friend as she goes to her locker. Allie has been my best friend since I moved to Indiana a year ago, and she's had my back through a lot. " Hey, Candace. " She says back. " Are you going to be able to come over today? " I asked, already knowing the answer. Her parents hated me. " No, sorry " She said. Typical.

I started to go to my locker when I heard someone call my name. I turned around to see who it was. Leah. " Hey, Cutie! " She says. She's a little weird, but she's also one of my best friends. " Hey, Lemon! " I say back. That was her nickname. We went out the door to the bus. " What are you doing this summer? " She asked. " I don't know, I think we're going to visit my family in Tennessee. " I said.

So much for a visit. Move? She wants me to move to Tennessee? My mom, wants me to move? Ha! Yeah, right. No, no, no, and no. Indiana was perfect. I wasn't just going to throw all that away. We've moved way too much, and out of all the places, Indiana was the best. Why would she do this?

" No, mom, please! " I begged her. " What about our friends? Your and Dad's jobs? " I tried to persuade her. " You can make new friends! There's always new jobs out there, too. We're moving so we can see our family more, we don't have any in Indiana. " I could feel a tear coming down my cheek. Hannah, my sister, seemed like she didn't even care. I mean, all you had to do was put a game in front of her and she was fine. Even if my mom did ask if I wanted to move, my answer wouldn't matter. We were moving, and I couldn't do anything about it.

As I unloaded my bags, memories flooded my mind. Like that one time, Leah and I went to the park and stayed all day, just talking. I thought about the times Allie and I argued about how her parents didn't like me. I wouldn't even be able to tell them bye. I wonder if they would be mad at me, for not being able to tell them. Maybe, moving was a good thing. To start over. Maybe that's what I needed, even if I thought I didn't. My thoughts were interrupted as the door slammed. I looked over and saw my cousin, Jordan, coming in. I didn't see her that often, maybe three times a year. Mom was right, we needed to see our family more. " Hey, Can! " She said excitedly. Good thing she was close to my age, maybe I would have someone to talk to. " Hey, Jordy. " I said back. " I heard you were moving here, aren't you glad? Then we can go to the same school! Don't worry about the people there, they're really nice. I can introduce you to my friends. I think you will like my friend, Abby. Brianna goes there too. Y'all are in the same grade, but I'm mad at her. " She sure was a talker. I always thought she was quiet. Guess not.

The summer went by quick, and the first day was tomorrow. I grabbed my favorite pajama pants and slipped them on. They were comfy, so maybe I could sleep easier. I always got butterflies the day before, and couldn't sleep. I hopped into bed and pulled up the blankets. My sister came in shortly after, being as noisy as ever. " Hannah, hush! I'm trying to get some sleep for tomorrow. " I said loudly, so my parents could hear. " Hannah, sweetie, be quiet. " Mom said. She rolled her eyes and turned the lights off. Having a sister that was only nine was tough. But I had to deal with it. I was starting seventh grade, and I needed to be the bigger person. Soon after she turned the lights off, I drifted into sleep.
