Heartstrings

CHAPTER ONE

(alarm clock rings) "Sh*t.", she said. It was a Monday morning. First day at a new school. Not everyone's favorite day. Alex shut the alarm off. Got up from bed. Uh....no. She didn't got up from bed on her own. Someone pushed her on the side, then she fell. That's how she woke up. Thanks to her brother.

"Breakfast's ready.", Claire shouted to her children. Children? Ah..no. They're young adults already. Time seems to be so fast for Claire. Her boy, Nicholas is already 20 and her girl, Alexandra, is 18. Such a lovely siblings. Her daydreaming was interrupted with a noise. Alex (Alexandra's nickname) and Nicky (Nicholas' nickname) came down the stairs together, laughing and trying to push each other down. "Cut it off you two. You're in the stairs!", Claire shouted. "He's pushing me.", Alex told her mom as she laughed. "Oh you're the one who's pushing.", answered Nicky with a laugh. Claire stared at them. They've grown really close together. Though Alex already has a boyfriend now, still, the number one guy for her is her brother Nicky. Well, his father was, 'til he died three years ago.

They all sat on the chairs and began to eat. "Ugh...love the egg. Half-cooked. Hmm.", Alex said. "This is how it's done Nick. Not the one you cooked yesterday that's almost literally brown.", she added, teasing her brother. "Oh yeah? Well, I was concentrated on cooking our breakfast when you suddenly called me to help you fix your closet early in the morning that I don't even know why. So I left the egg and it over cooked on its own so I wasn't the one to blame.", Nicky said smiling. "So who was it? Me? Or the egg? Haha.", teased Alex. "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Shut up. Haha.", Nicky said back as he kissed her sister's forehead. Alex laughed out loud. "I won", she said. Then her phone rang. "Boyfriend alert", said Nicky as he smiled to their mom. She picked up the call. "Hey.", she answered. "Hey baby. I'll pick you up okay?", said Jace, her 2-year boyfriend. "No need to. Nick's with me.", Alex told him. "You sure. I can come over.", he insisted. "No it's fine baby. I'll see you at school. Okay? Loveyou.", she answered. "Okay, loveyoutoo.", he said back as Alex ended the phone call. "What was that?", Claire asked. "Jace wanted to pick me up. But I said I'll go with Nick.", Alex answered. "Oooh. I thought you missed him.", Nicky said. "I'm with him yesterday. What are you talking about? Haha.", she responded. "Okay honey, time's running. Finish your food. You too Nicholas. New school in college. You don't wanna be late.", Claire told them. "Right away Mom.", Alex answered.

Right after eating, the siblings took a bath (not together okay..), then got ready for school. "Try not to drive so fast Nicho okay?", Claire told his boy. Nicky nodded as he smiled. "Watch your sister.", she added. "Wait. What?! What will I do? Haha.", Alex exclaimed. "You know what Mom, I'll be the one who's gonna look after him. Haha.", the teen added. Claire laughed a bit. "The car's ready Ms. Dennings.", Nicky joked her sister, pretending to be her driver and opening the door for her. "Why thank you Mr. Dennings. Haha.", Alex replied. "Bye Mom, loveyou.", she said. Claire kissed them goodbye.
