Chapter 7

 Kim and Linda met at the airport. The flight would be later that night, but because of the need to arrive a few hours earlier to check in their luggage, they set up to meet in the late afternoon, which would give them time to have dinner and talk.

Linda was not used to trust people very quickly, but there was something about Kimberly that caught her attention. She didn't know what it was, but she felt like she could trust her. She hadn't felt that in a very long time.

They checked in their luggage after waiting in line for a while, entered the boarding area, went through security and looked for a restaurant within the terminal to satisfy their hunger. Nothing fancy, they chose pizza.

─ I think I need to thank you for all of this. ─ Linda said.

─ Thank me for what?

─ For having decided to tell me about Charles, for deciding to involve me in it after you had a suspicion about him, to have praised me for my work, and specially now, for having offered me this quick getaway.

─ This trip will certainly be more fun with company.

─ I know, I think so too. But it happened in the best moment possible.

─ Listen, Linda, I'm not a superstitious person, but I truly believe everything happens for a reason. It cannot be a coincidence that you assisted in this case, that I was in there, and let alone that we got an answer from his agent, who wishes to talk to us in person. Sometimes we don't understand, but if we are patient, we'll realize that there is a reason.

─ I don't know if I believe that or not, but I'm happy to be moving far away from my problems.

─ I know the feeling.

─ And what do you think Christian wants to tell us?

─ I have no idea.

─ It's odd that it must be in person.

─ I thought so too. But we'll find out tomorrow and then we can go around the city. I've never visited Toronto. Have you?

─ Me neither.

─ So, we'll have lots of activities this week. ─ she said, and they laughed.

They finished dinner and sat next to the boarding gate to wait for their flight. Everything transpired perfectly, they started boarding right on time, and they found their seats. Now, they'd have many hours of flight ahead of them, until reaching the destination. The good thing is that they would sleep during a great part of the flight, and because they were used to sleep anywhere due to their long work hours, the plane seats were not that bad. And because they were very tired, they fell asleep as soon as the plane started moving.

The flight had little turbulence, and close to landing time, the flight crew started waking up all passengers to serve them breakfast.

─ Did you sleep well? ─ Kim asked.

─ Like a rock. ─ Linda smiled.

Then, she decided to connect her phone to the plane wi-fi, to find out if anything urgent was happening. As soon as she did that, she noticed she had received tons of message. By the senders, she could imagine what they were all about. She decided it was not the moment to get upset with that, and simply disconnected.

─ What happened? You look awful. ─ Kim commented.

─ I suspect my ex-boyfriend has done something else, but I don't want to deal with that right now. I'll worry about him and his little games later. ─ her tone of voice was clearly angry, although she tried to disguise it.
