Welcome to my third tale from the wonderful realm of Pinecest, entitled, The Buddy System. As with the others, the title is taken from another one of my favorite tracks — this one by the band, The Brother Kite — that I find aptly meshes with the overall mood of the story.
I set out on this installment with two objectives in mind. The first was to continue the arc started with No Sense. Not only is this effort part of the same world as that release, but I intend to fill in the space between with additional tomes, each running somewhere between 35k and 45k in length, though that is just a goal for now; results may vary. Regardless, with No Sense taking place in high school, and this with the twins middle-aged, there will be plenty of fun to explore in the timeline betwixt the two. (As an aside, if you haven't read No Sense, it shouldn't be an issue; I make enough allusions to carry over the bigger elements in order to keep the plot self-contained.)
The second objective was to write something that could be rated as somewhere below 'mature'. The reason behind this is that I know there are a few folks out there who may be curious as to what Pinecest entails from an emotional standpoint, but may not want to jump into the deep end in terms of sexual content. As such, there is no explicit interaction of that nature herein; if you are looking for that, No Sense or Leaving the House Where We Grew Up will likely satiate your carnal desires. Here, however, such intimacy is only implied and nothing beyond some smooching is described in detail.
One of those folks looking to dip their toe in the water, Banskton, is also someone to whom I dedicate this to. Also, the inimitable Corny Tyrannosaurus certainly earns a mention, as well; often a muse and always a friend, I'd be lost without his sage wisdom and advice. Last, but not least, this is written to the wonderful community with whom I've found a home; thank you from the bottom of my heart.
