It was in the month of October that Skid was sent back to his hometown, like a knight riding on his white horse for a mission, bearing his blade for any sort of incoming danger.
The sky was fading into an orange-ish hue, a pastel shade slowly darkening the silhouettes of nearby trees and vehicles to look like passing shadows, or looming figures. Lights from nearby buildings were on, blinding with their radiant glow.
The artificial lights from inside almost made Skid nearly close his eyes. But one thing he knew was certain was to keep his eyes on the road. Ignoring the pain inflicted upon his retinas anytime he passed by a source of light, he continued to drive, his slender hands wrapped around the wheel. His vehicle was nothing too fancy. An ordinary vehicle like any other, small in its size. It was a vehicle that anyone with his allowance could afford.
Skid could hear the whirring of the air conditioner from inside of the car. It had been on the entire time, for he was prepared for the blazing heat that would come whenever the moon would slowly lower, and whenever the sun would slowly rise in its place. Even now, he knew how warm this place could be when it wanted to.
Vehicles passed by, and each time, he heard it. He could hear the tires grinding up against the road into what could only be made out by his ears to be a fast sound caused by the sheer speed or the vehicle driving. Sometimes, he heard nearby beeping from other cars. The radio wasn't on, and the only sounds he listened to were the sounds of what could only be the quick thumping of his heartbeat anytime a vehicle came close to his own.
He could feel the air conditioning blowing up against his face in quick pants, as if some sort of creature were breathing near him. A slight sigh of relief escaped his lips. The air conditioning was all that he had in such a hot place.
The air conditioning was the only companion he had in a place filled with nothing but the rising temperature of the sunshine pouring its warm heat onto the town. He could feel his heart thumping against his chest from inside, like the quick flapping of a hummingbirds wings. Flapping, and flapping endlessly. He was almost certain that it should have been fast enough for anyone to actually hear it. He could feel a bead of sweat trickling down his pale cheek. His shoulders rose up, and then lowered as he let out another sigh.
He couldn't smell anything within his car, other than the exterior of the very seat he was sitting in. There were a few items he had thrown into the back of his car. His mouth was filled with only the forced taste of the air conditioning that was forcefully blowing against him like a hurricanes winds.
Skid was sat upright. His focus being set on what was in front of him. Buildings slowly zoomed by like a whirlwind as he kept driving up on ahead to where he was supposed to be. Where he was asked to head back to. Yes.. he was supposed to be here. He knew that so.
Skid could see his own reflection in the rear view mirror. His dyed purple hair that was styled into a bowl cut. His eyes with dark circles surrounding them. His mouth curled into a soft frown that was almost small enough not to be seen. He could see in the very back of his hair that there were still three messy tendrils of hair on each side. Like someone had taken a pair of scissors and chopped off pieces of his hair.
He only looked back on his head, and for a moment, he shut his eyes. He quickly opened them back up, as not to lose his focus. The thought of losing focus made his very palms sweat. And he knew this so, for he could see the very beads of it about to form as the thought occurred in his mind. He then spoke aloud, hid tone sounding breathy. "..I hope Lillith was right about this."
A vehicle slightly moved upwards, making enough room for Skid to drive on up a little further. Of course, he did so, but he made sure to be careful. Any wrong move could have easily led to something worse, or something terrible, or something dreadful. And Skid didn't know what would have come after dreadful had it led to that point.
