'Daddy, why won't you let me play with her?'
As per usual, her father replied,
'Not now, Elizabeth. I can't take you now.'
She tried again, 'But she's so pretty and shiny! And didn't you make her for me?' Her placating tone would have instantly changed any other person's mind. Unfortunately, William Afton, aka 'Daddy' or (more commonly) 'Mr Afton', was not 'any other person'. Instead, his eyelid twitched, 'Elizabeth, I said NOT NOW. NOW is reserved for a certain something called WORK. Do you understand? Go play with your brothers.' With that, he waved a massive hand at her, shooing her away altogether not very gently.
The little girl's voice grew more frustrated, 'Daddy, you let the other children go see her! Why won't you let me go?'
But her father had now shut her out almost completely. It was obvious, even to Elizabeth, that he could now see nothing but work and work and work and lifeless paper documents.
She ran out of the office, closing the door behind her. Her eyes stung and she blinked rapidly. She did not want to cry. When she cried, she looked so ugly- her usually lustrous auburn hair glinting with fallen tears and her seemingly permanently bright green eyes turned dull and red around the edges. If she were to become suddenly ugly, wouldn't Daddy stop loving her? This thought made her swallow the lump in her throat and quickly wipe away her not-quite-fallen-yet tears.
'L-Li-Lizzy?' A voice right beside her made her jump.
'Evan!!!'
'S-sorry, Lizzy, I just th-thought I s-saw you c-crying... A-are you o-okay?'
This made her leap to her feet.
'Ev?'
'Ye-yeah?'
'You did not see anything.'
And with that, she zoomed away, her bright, green eyes rekindled again.
