Once we got to the pub we were immediately surrounded by our friends and neighbors who had watched us win a chance at our dreams. After detaching myself from everybody I went to the bar. Lucky himself was tending tonight which was a rare occurrence these days.
Louie "Lucky" Daniels ~ Married to Mary-Ann Daniels, has 3 kids, 20 year old David, 18 year old Dominic, and 13 year old Danielle. All "D"s but that's what Lucky wanted. Lucky is 60 himself and Mary-Ann 56, but she will deny it until the day the dies that she is ten ears younger. Lucky was diagnosed with colon cancer 3 years ago and has been fighting it since. Lucky has been like a best friend, older brother, and father figure to me for most of my life. Lucky's diagnosis was a real hit to everybody who knew him, his daughter didn't come out of her room for 4 days after she found out.But it was an especially big hit to me because it was the exact same cancer that took my real father from me. Lucky has been cutting back on work hours but still does a lot of the overseeing things, he is still at the pub almost 24/7 just usually he is just sitting there. Lucky helped me when I lost my mom to, car crash with a drunk driver. He gave me a job and a place to stay in the apartment above the pub. I owe him my life.
"So what's up Lucky?" I asked hopping on an empty stool.
He looked at me and grinned, "Oh nothing just one of my favorite girls in the world just found out that her dreams were coming true. Oh this makes me so happy!" He was about to burst into tears it seemed like. "But now you're gonna be a big star and leave little old me here and never come back. you'll just forget all about me!"
"Oh, Lucky. You should chill, I'll still be here for a little bit longer." He calms down a bit. "Hey why don't I take over here and you go on home and rest with Mary-Ann and the kids." He starts to object but I slide over the bar counter.
"I'm not taking no for an answer. I'll close and clean up. Go home, eat, sleep. If not for yourself then do it for me. Give me a little peace in my mind, one things less to worry about." He shrugs and moves out from behind the bar.
"Ok, I'll cave, just be careful, your room is all good upstairs and please be safe. I know its right outside but this isn't the best neighborhood and you know that." He leaned forward and kissed my cheek. "Love you, don't forget tomorrows Friday. Family dinner!" I laugh as he walks out the door.
In start taking orders and making drinks. About an hour till closing a huge party comes in cheering and shouting. You could tell that most, if not all of them were already drunk and were just bar hopping around until they either got arrested, passed out, or wind up at their homes. But the select few who weren't drunk wound up at the bar while the others took up the booths in the back corner.
Seeing as I was the bartender/waitress I decided to accept the challenge and go for the booth first.
"What can I do for you guys?" The one who was obviously in charge leered at me.
"I'll tell you what you can do for me baby girl, but I don't think you want these guys around for it." He looked me up and down. Disgusting, can no man resist the temptation to flirt with a girl in the chance of getting in her pants! Ugh, men.
"Well I'm sorry sir but we are fresh out of that. It is way out of your league anyways. Now I'll ask one more time and I expect a decent answer. What. Can. I. Get. For. You?" I pulled out my order pad, raising my eyebrows at them.
One of the other guys, being brave decided to order some tequila shots and a round of beer saying to keep them coming all night.
"Just in case you guys were wonderin' we close in an hour. You'll need to be gone or leaving by then or else I am forced to call the cops on you. Pub Policy." I point to the sign above the main entrance. A lot of them looked like they were sad by this fact or they were just to drunk to feel anything and their faces just started to droop. Shrugging I left to go get their drinks.
