Pretend

Illumi knew something was off as soon as the elevator door of his building opened up.

He couldn't see anything weird in the hallway. The same lights on the ceiling, the same grey doors pierced the wall in front of him, the same smell of cleaning products floated in the air.

Nothing unusual.

And yet, he could feel it with his whole body. His mind was so alert it almost hurt. He could hear his blood rushing through his veins as fast as it could.

He just knew it.

Hisoka was there. There was no explanation.

It's either that, either I'm finally insane.

A nervous laughter left his lips before he could even realize it. He finally left the enclosed space of the elevator, still not believing his boss had let him take the day off.

Before the doors could close behind him, Illumi turned around, quickly glancing at his own reflection. He looked terrible.
His skin was paler than usual, his eyes had dark circles under them and apparently he had gained stress wrinkles on his forehead.

Eventually, the doors closed, leaving him alone with his tired and terrible face in the hallway.

He sighed, gathering what was left of his strength. If his hunch was right, he would need it.

He grabbed his keys and slowly opened the door of his apartment, trying to figure out a cool line to tell Hisoka as he would see him.

Making yourself comfortable I see?
No, that's lame.

I wasn't expecting visitors?
Ugh..

What about I take you out tonight? Say, to the precinct?

Illumi just sighed. He was being pretty lame right now. And what about this hunch ? Was he really expecting Hisoka to be waiting for him in his own apartment?
Or was he hoping he would?

The detective shook his head. He couldn't allow himself to be this weak minded. He was a policeman. Hisoka was a serial killer.

If that piece of shit had dared break into his apartment, Illumi would arrest him. That was the right, logical thing to do. That's all.

Exactly.

Out of all the scenarios he could have possibly made up in his mind, never could he have guessed what was waiting for him inside.
The door was opened and Illumi was still in the hallway. As nothing had moved inside, he carefully stepped in, took his shoes off and did a quick check around, confirming that no one was there.

With a sigh of relief, he headed for the bathroom, and that's when he realized what was going on. He had been so focused on spotting Hisoka that he hadn't even paid attention to a pretty obvious detail.

His shower was on. Well, it had been on. Right now, it had been turned off.

Illumi opened the door, only to reveal a very naked pink haired man steeping out of his shower.

The detective gasped out loud, hypnotized by the sight. Weirdly enough, what upset him the most was the wet hair messily spread on his forehead.

"You don't mind, right?" asked Hisoka, with that same damned voice.

Focus Illu

"Are you talking about the breaking-in and using my shower or all the people you killed?" replied Illumi, gun already pointed to the naked man's chest.

Hisoka just laughed, like, out loud.

"You are coming with me to the precinct" explained Illumi with a very steady voice. "You are under arrest."
"Do I have a choice?" asked Hisoka, seemingly not worried at all about the gun. "Cause if so, I'd rather be under you."

"I'd shut up if I were you" simply said Illumi. "Turn around slowly, hands still up."

Hisoka did as told, looking into Illumi's eyes for as long as he could.

"Can I get dressed first, or do you want to explain to your boss why I was naked in your apartment?" asked Hisoka as he faced the wall.

Damn it.

"What makes you think they will believe you?" asked Illumi.
"What makes you think they will believe you?" replied Hisoka. "If you bring a naked man back to your precinct without any evidence, just assumptions that he is a serial killer, what do you think will happen?"

Illumi's hand trembled slightly. Hisoka was right.

DAMN IT.

It's not like he could bring him back, lock him in for precaution and look for clues to solve the case.
There were no clues.
On top of it, Hisoka had never confessed. He had never confirmed to be the serial killer, even if Illumi knew it.

He was blocked.

"Can I assume I am right?" asked Hisoka with a chuckle. "You can't do anything."

Silence spread around them as Illumi tried to figure something out. However this was the most serious case their precinct had had in years, he couldn't risk something like this. He needed either proof or a confession.

A confession.

Hisoka clearly wanted something out of him.
And he clearly liked games.
What if Illumi could trick him?

"Except perhaps lend me a towel" added Hisoka. "I'm still wet from the shower."

Illumi put his gun down and back to its holder. He needed to keep Hisoka here long enough for the latter to make a mistake, as soon as that would happen, Illumi would have enough to arrest him and solve everything.

He just had to pretend he wanted Hisoka to stay with him.

Illumi grabbed a towel in the cabinet and threw it at the pink haired man. The latter picked it ip in the air gracefully and started drying himself off.
There was something about the way his muscles moved that trapped Illumi in a transe.

Why on earth did this man have such a perfect body?

Illumi sighed.

Yeah... just pretend
