the sound of skateboards clinging together, overlapping with the sounds of screams from all sorts of places.
"Jen!" a boy calls out, "yeah?" jen says confused with what he has to say. "you going to pacos house later?" he reply's, out of breath from running to Jen. "uhh maybe, whose going?" a boy emerges from behind boy 1, "everyone" the boy utters in a quiet but confirming tone. "sure then i'll be there at 10?" jen says. "yeah! we'll see you later" boy 1 announces. "okay bye Dennis, bye Leo!" she yells across the park. jen looks at her watch, "5:56 pm" the clock reads, "shit! moms home at 6!" Jen grabs her skateboard and skates home in a rush hoping she can make it before her mothers arrival.
*the sun sets as Jen skates into her open garage*
the garage door can be heard slamming aligning with Jens footsteps up the stairs. "hey mom home yet?" Jen whispers, out of breath from the amount of skating and running she had to do. The tv can be heard as her sister speaks up " no but she's comin." her sister says in a sterile voice. "uh okay, tell me when she's here, bye abby." Jen reply's before running to her room "JENNIFER DONT CALL ME THAT YOU KNOW IM NOT YOUR FUCKING FRIEND." Abigail yells out, before the door to Jens door slams and a lock sound can be heard.
She sighs as she flops down onto her bed. "6:34" the clock reads. "isn't she supposed to be home by now?" a door slams as a young lady's voice calls out "come the food please." the mom shouts in a endearing voice.
the silence at the dinner table is always unbearable. this is why Jen dislikes eating so much, everything is always quiet if no one's yelling. "so Jennifer, how was your day? i assume your cheer tryouts must've been tricky." her mom speaks up " it was good you know , i went to school and tryouts were tricky at first but i think i got in." *Abigail scoffs"
"is something wrong Abigail? do we have an issue? " the mom says in a upsetting and firm tone. "No" Abbys voice cracks as she speaks. "So then why are you laughing? nothing is funny here." the table is silent again, something that Jen hates. " am i not allowed to laugh anymore? i thought of something funny."
Abby speaks in a scared tone " Not when your sister is speaking. say sorry abigail." " sorry Jen" * the mother bangs the table* "Call her by her correct name" you can sense the rage forming in the mother, it speaks louder than words. "im sorry Jennifer ." Abigail is on the verge of crying, knowing what's coming next. " it's okay Abigail i know you didn't mean it." Jennifer says, with fear in her voice knowing what's coming for her older sister.
"No it is not okay, Abigail will be facing her punishment if she wants to rebel against the rules." the mom is now angry. and Jennifer leaves the table, leaving Abigail alone to deal with her mother.
