It was raining, again.
To her it felt as if it hadn't stopped raining for a week now. It was mid-November so that might be the reason but the constantly grey clouds set a depressing mood upon all the people living the city.
Pulling her coat tighter, the little girl hurried over the street, careful not to step in any of the ankle-deep puddles. She stopped walking in front of a high building - Detroit central bank. She hoped that maybe one of the wealthy looking people coming through the doors would take enough pity on her to give her a little bit of money.
Patiently she sat down on the stairs in the pouring rain until a hand was placed on her shoulder, "Hey kid, you shouldn't be sitting in the rain. You'll catch a fever." With that the man scurried away again, leaving the girl to scoff. Catching a fever didn't sound too bad at the moment because then she could have a chance of getting admitted to the local hospital.
Less and less people walked past her and the clock on the building told her that it was nearing nine o'clock in the evening.
Standing up a huge sigh left her body, knowing she would have to find shelter somewhere for the night. She walked along the darkening streets until she saw a group of people lurking at the further end of the alley. Curiosity kills the cat, was what they said but nevertheless the little girl hid behind a garbage can to be able to listen to those suspicious looking people.
She flinched when the first punch was thrown, followed by several more, and her eyes widened in horror when she noticed that the person wasn't moving anymore.
"Boss, we are not alone" A male voice said and the girl pressed her hand in front of her mouth in order to stay quiet.
She heard footsteps approaching her and she pressed her body closer against the wall, hoping the darkness would somehow swallow her.
"Look who we have here..." Suddenly she was grabbed by a man and dragged towards he rest of the group, "Look what I found, boss."
Another man approached her and harshly lifted her chin so she was forced to look up at the man whose face was covered in scars, "What's your name?"
The girl only stared back at him and spit in his direction, making the guy laugh, "Tough, are we? I like you, I think I'll keep you."
"Welcome, to our world, shorty!"
