The calm before the storm

The sun after a long time set below the horizon just to be replaced by the moon and the people gathered in the cafe were still inside. They probably felt much safer since no daredevil suggested going out onto the street. And that's good. What would happen if they left now? No one knew what was waiting for them around the corner, and no one is likely to want to find out now. Ford closed the door just an hour after the incident. Maybe the deadbodies won't enter the buildings, but it's better to be safe.

Fourth and Gemini were still watching everything through the window when they received freshly brewed mint tea from one of the women.

- Drink something warm. No one will leave today. - A woman who looked not much older than both guys said. She had long brown hair, delicate facial features and was dressed in so-called home clothes. Gray sweater, airy trousers and white sneakers. At first glance you could see a rounded belly, which only worsened the mood of both guys. The woman was apparently in the second trimester of pregnancy and was exposed to so much stress. - I'm Namtan. Don't look at me like that, I know very well what you are thinking. Just because I'm a two-pack doesn't mean I'm in a different situation than everyone else here. - She added, rolling her eyes in a sarcastic way.

The three of them sat down at a table that was originally occupied only by two twenty-six-year-olds. After introducing themselves, a long-awaited silence fell between them. Composure.

The clock struck eight in the evening and everything fell silent. Outside, the smoldering streetlights illuminated no living soul. More than a dozen bodies lay strewn across the asphalt and sidewalks, the result of earlier actions by, as Gemini called them - the zombies. The silence was unsettling. Nobody knew what was happening. No one had enough knowledge to say anything with one hundred percent certainty.

- So we can say for now that corpses are not rummaged through after 8 p.m. Now the question is where they are and what time they will be back. - Fourth muttered, running his finger along the corners of the cup with steaming tea. - Although it's better if they don't come back.

- When I was a child, my mother always said that hope is the mother of fools. I hope she's wrong. - Namtan replied, sipping her infusion. - May you protect your grandson! - With a silent scream, she threw these words firmly, pointing her finger at the ceiling.

While drinking their tea, they summarized the information they had collected so far. There was no TV in the cafe or even a radio to inform them of the latest facts about the deaf or not deaf deadbodies.

- If these idiots had their eardrums burst, how the hell did they hear screaming?! Fuck everything. Fuck everyone! I'm going out of here. Fuck off! - Shouted an apparently thirty-five-year-old man in office attire with an ID badge attached to his neck that read "Bank Manager: James Wongwisut".

- Young man, calm down a bit. Didn't you see what happened here earlier? This is not an ordinary costume party. - Said the rather nice-looking grandfather with stoic calm. - This is destruction, the beginning of the end I would even say. I'm over seventy years old and I've never seen such miracles on screen in my life. Believe the old man and sit down if you want to live. - Finishing his statement, he pointed to an empty chair, suggesting that James should rest and not colloquially talk nonsense and stress everyone out. No one needed a replay of the event.

However, the guy started struggling with the door lock, shouting for the "fucking barista" to open it for him. Ford looked at the grandfather and then gave everyone one by one a worried and questioning look. What was he supposed to do? If he won't open the door for him, the guy will try to break it down. If he opens it, the guy could die. However, each option ended with the bank director leaving the cafe.
