He's a scared lovable hero that Nintendo calls a "Coward"... He is shy and scared of anything, but will defend (or save) his older and popular brother. That's what makes him a hero, he also cares for people and will help them in need. He was a coward even before Luigi's mansion, He was portrayed like this in The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, The adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, and the Super Mario World DIC shows before Luigi's mansion.
