"Happy birthday, mother. I miss you."
Jay put down a bouquet of white lilies on her grave.
'White lilies were her favourite flowers.'
He stared at her grave as he reminisced the days he spent with his mother.
He still remembered the day that they baked a birthday cake the first time together when he was 6yo. It had always been his mother who taught him how to cook. Although she was fragile, she still passed on some of her recipes to him. The memories of spending time trying all kinds of recipes with his mother made him loves cooking so much. Those were the sweetest memories that he had of his mother.
Ringg!
"Hello Jay, where are you?" It was Syiho at the end of the line.
"I am at mother's grave. Why?"
"Are you ok?"
"Yeah..."
"Coincidently, I am at your apartment but you are not here. I guess I will just head back today. I still need to resume my duty for the day." Syiho sounded in a hurry.
"Wait for me inside. I'll head back now."
"No no it's ok Jay. I was just dropping by to see you. I don't want you to ride recklessly just because you wanted to rush to see me today."
"But it has been two months that I haven't seen you after we got back."
"Then are you free tomorrow afternoon? I'll be at the cafe near your apartment. I will be having lunch with a friend. Is that ok?" Syiho suggested as she would love to see him too.
"Friend? Is it a guy?"
"No! She is my client. But we are friends! Jeez. She just wanted to try the new cake there."
"Ok."
"Ok see you tomorrow. Love you."
"Yeah. Love you."
...
It had been two months since they returned from the away mission. Jay had been busy with unpacking his stuff after he moved. He was no longer staying at the organization's dorm. Due to the incident with Anna, he decided to move out from the dorm to avoid bumping into her often. Then, he bought an apartment with the thought of having more privacy to spend time with Syiho. The apartment was not that far from the head quarter. He also bought a superbike that can make him easier to commute to work. He gave a spare key of his apartment to Syiho so that she can always visit him anytime. However, ever since they were back to Earth, they were both preoccupied with reports due to many events that unfold during their away mission and work. So they had not been able to meet each other much.
'Maybe I will just head back in case I can bump into her on the way.' He wished.
He said goodbye to his mother and swiftly head back to his bike. He wore his helmet and turned his bike. Eventhough the journey was about an hour, he headed to his apartment in hope that he could catch up to his girlfriend.
....
'Did she leave?'
He took out his key card and opened his door.
'She did. Sigh..'
Disappointed that he couldn't manage to see Syiho, he closed the door and landed on the sofa. He stared into the ceiling.
'I miss her. I feel so empty without her...'
He felt so lonely at the moment. He missed their time during the away mission. How he wish for time to rewind back to when he met Syiho. He wouldn't mind to be wrecked over so many times so that he could meet Syiho again and again. As he was lost in thoughts, he caught a glimpse on the clock. It was almost 10pm and he hadn't eaten his dinner yet. He decided to just go to the convenience store and buy some instant noodle. He put on his hoodie, grabbed his phone and stormed out of his apartment.
