I pass the flat iron through the last section finally done with my hair. It's not perfect but it will do, at least it's different, with a little makeup. I've been finding myself googling all afternoon 'What do College girls where to college parties?' Only to be met with cargo jeans and crop tops, but it's not my style. I instead opted for some skinny jeans, a red blouse, and a jean jacket with a pair of gym shoes. I know it's probably not in style, but it's me. I take my phone, and this time my charger and place them inside my crossbody with my wallet that is already inside.

I leave my room, on my way out of the house, until I decide to head towards the kitchen, taking a couple of Laura's stress capsules, it might help with the nerves.

"That's sweet you wanted to dress up for the engagement, but you already missed it." Laura says, coming out of nowhere nearly making me choke on the pills. "The four of them went out to celebrate." She is delusional for believing I care.

"I actually am going out. Eliot is having a party." I say. It is hard to act fine with her, after what Brooke told me.

"I didn't know you two were back together." She says pouring herself a glass of wine.

"We are not," I say washing out my glass. "We never were together." I place the glass on the drying rack.

"Your tense." She says, after hearing the thud of the cup hitting the metal.

"No, I am not." I deny it, closing the kitchen cabinet.

"Is this about what I said? About the Keller kid?" She asks. "I was wrong... my bad." She says, missing the whole point of it, I only return to her a blank stare. It was never about her being wrong, but the way she made me feel about not being good enough.

"You will never guess what I found." Andrew says, entering the kitchen seeming quite excited with a box in his hand. Until he notices the declining mood between his wife and me and places the box on the counter. "You look nice." He compliments me.

"Thank you." I smile, accepting his compliment with ease, for the chance of him meaning his words are a lot higher than her. "Eliot is having a party."

"Tonight? When are you leaving?" He asks. I glanced down at my phone to check the time, but I was never given a time for the party. I guess the worst possibility is that I show up too early, from what I heard college parties don't have an end time. "I thought now, was a good time for the three of us to talk... to clear the air. It won't take long, I can set a stopwatch." He types his PIN into his phone opens the timer app, and hits the start button. "We can even have a limit. 5 minutes? 15 minutes? An hour? Your call." Andrew tells me.

"This is ridiculous." Laura says, under her breath nearly laughing. But Andrew doesn't pay her any attention, he keeps his eyes on me.

"The timer won't be necessary." I say, taking a seat on the stool on the other side of the kitchen island. I pause for a minute trying to get my words and emotions together, I've been waiting for this moment for years, and I thought it would never happen. I glance at the phone at the timer going on forty-five seconds.

"I'll make this easy for you, Maya. Is there anything that I or your mom could do for you within our power?"

"My brother, I want my brother. Xavier." I answer. Not even hiding their surprise, they glance at one another.

"Here? In Ohio?" Laura asks, seeming upset with my request, while Andrew still seems to be at a loss for words, probably regretting setting his timer.

"Not necessarily. But when I graduate from North River, I am moving to San Francisco to be with him and attend law school."
